how long after a ride should a recovery session be?

I did an intervals turbo session last night (6x 20/40 secs, 6x 30/30 secs, 6x 20/40 secs) and want to do a recovery spin today to flush out any crap from my muscles before a 10TT tomorrow and a crit on Sunday.

Should I do it this morning i.e 12 hours after, or leave it 24 hours to allow adequate recovery?
My legs dont feel too bad as it happens but I wonder if slightly stressing them again this morning while they may still be repairing would be counter productive.

Thanks

I had my last hard interval session on Wednesday... light road spin for hour and 20 yesterday, keeping it in the small ring and just taking it easy on flat Cheshire lanes.. today the same for 90 minutes with a mate just to enjoy the sunshine.
Tomorrow is a short circuit crit and Sunday another one but on a longer 2 mile circuit.
I think you do what you feel you can do within bounds and actually having a think about your nutrition on these days will do more for your performance in the races.
I race as vet btw, so I need my recoveries more than I used to get away with , a long time back.

Those intervals don't sound like they would need much recovery time, if any. Some protein, warm bath and a Easter egg and just crack on.

I'd be focused on Sunday though. If you are going for the win then I'd think about keeping those legs as fresh as possible.

Within 24 hours but normally 12 for me.
  • Cheers,
Just did half hour ride up the road to try and keep some freshness for thevweekend.
Not currently as fit as i was last year when i did quite a few TTs. Sunday will be 2nd attempt at crit racing, so will see how it goes.

^-^ Sounds like the sensible option to me. As long as you keep your recovery rides short and not so hard you can't really go wrong.

    Good luck on the weekend!
Pain hurts much less if its topped off with beating your mates to top of a climb.
