As someone who used to live in Inverness I was always amused when people from the SE referred to Newcastle as "The North".
Chester?
I am currently unable to control my bladder due to laughter!0 -

I'm sure people from London find it equally hilarious that you think Newcastle is in the SouthFaster than a tent.......0 -

Newcastle is south (of Inverness) but I would never refer to it as THE south whereas the north of England is commonly referred to as THE north by the yokels in London!0 -
Anyway, fascinating geography lesson aside, we've all been posted weather warnings in Yorkshire for steady snow tomorrow and the next day. Accuweather's predicting about 7 or 8 cm of snow on Fri and Sat. I'm sure trains will be ok if a bit delayed in plasces but I'd steer clear of the roads if I were you. It's bitterly cold and going to be windy as well.0

aye and I am heartily sick of it. Where is spring?0

And in the south.....
....light drizzle“Training is like fighting with a gorilla. You don’t stop when you’re tired. You stop when the gorilla is tired.”0 -

Imagine that, calling the north of England The North. The fools!0 -

Whilst here in the MID-lands, it is now snowing and if it keeps like this as forecast, there'll be no cycling for me this weekend :evil:Summer - Canyon Ultimate CF SLX 9.0 Team
Winter - Trek Madone 3.5 2012 with UDi2 upgrade.

South mid South, not proper South.“Training is like fighting with a gorilla. You don’t stop when you’re tired. You stop when the gorilla is tired.”0 -
Heavy rain, very windy and cold here in Cornwall... Only one of my strava buds was out yesterday and he was on a commute... Doesn't look any better today.0

Took this week of work to use up my remaining holidays and I was thinking initially that I was going to put in a few 100mile runs. Suffice to say its has not been cycle friendly weather and has been snowing on and off and bloody freezing too up here in Scotland for the last 10 days and the forecast outlook going forward is not much better. Its actually snowing with gale force gusts as I write this.
Looking at the news this morning and Wales and the North(of England!) do seem to suffering much worse than elsewhere.Brian B.0 -

Was going to do the same myself but looked at the weather and decided to carry them over instead. Bank holiday next weekend so praying for 4 dry days.0 -
Got up to my moms house in Bromsgrove last night, just as the snow started. Was intending to do 100 miles today, lookingg outside at the snow and winds, could be an afternoon on the turbo.0

Snowing in Wakefield today - only a few inches settling though. Unless it freezes hard overnight (black Ice!!) I think it will be fine for my planned Saturday cycle.0

Do you think? Have a fun ride!Metoffice for W Yorks wrote:Amber Warning of Snow. A band of heavy rain spreading northwards across the UK has turned to snow in many parts, with some heavy and persistent snowfall likely to develop through the period into Saturday morning. High ground may see snow accumulations of 20-40 cm in places, with drifting and blizzard conditions due to the strong to gale force southeasterly winds. At lower levels, 10-15 cm of snow is likely in places.Faster than a tent.......0 -
Off this week too, best (or worst) I've managed was 3 hours on the turbo trainer
Thought I might get out this morning as no snow forecast but put off by 35 mph winds. And then it snowed anyway.
All I've got to show for this week is a shiny new cassette and chain which are begging to be taken out for a proper run. Maybe next week.....0 -

Didn't take but was given a week i was due. Was looking forward to getting out everyday, but so far got out Monday and Wednesday, just for a few hours
Isn't snowing here but I just got back from taking my dogs to the park and it's bloody freezing out there (Feels like -a lot with that wind blowing). Was planning on going out on my bike but I think i'll stay nice and warm watching the cycling this afternoon instead.0 -
A couple of us have just abandoned plans to drive from Glasgow to Coniston for the "Retrobike" National mountainbike meet-up tomorrow. Conditions would be ok for off road larks but the travelling would be a bit dodgy.
There's still a bunch of folk attending from various points of the compass. Hope they make it without mishap.0 -
I was due for a 40miler this afternoon in Manchester with some friends, new speed plays fitted and bought some new Mavic road shoes and then comes all this snow, even worst that I'm off on holiday Monday, so no road rides for a week.Cipollini Bond
