Loads of stands in the Wallasey branch this morning if anyone lives up that way.

Just got a track pump (better than my Revolution one) and HR monitor (not in the bike section).

Just got 2 of the short sleeve baselayers and a pair of the mitts, might go back for the glasses.

The glasses look OK for the money, not exactly Oakleys but given how often I seem to damage or lose glasses paying more than a few quid goes against the grain.

Usual caveat with Lidl, keep the receipt.

Just bought a track pump - Taking it back cant get the handle to go back down flush and there is more air coming out than in. Track mitts are ok for £3.50
  • Whats the gilet like, might pop in later if people rate it?

glasses are good - I normally grab a couple of pairs every time. Base layers are also good very good when you get hot and sweaty and cold again.

they don't sound that good if you have to buy a couple of pairs each time?

Warning though, if you are small (literally wear a size small) you may be found wanting - everything but the gilet thing seem to start in Medium.

Gilet seems quite good. Three front pockets and one on the rear. Back length isnt too long but for the money you cant complain. It is over sized/baggy so go for a smaller size. I'm normally a medium 38/40 chest and had to buy a 34/36

Also bought 2 pairs of socks and a base layer vest, all of which seem good value for money

Right so just got home with my Lidl purchases. Verdict:

2 pairs of the cycling socks - fine needed some pairs so these will do.
Gilet (s) - If you are a small in everything else you will need an xs but they dont do them. Its baggy and not tight fitting. Yet to see what its like on the bike but seems ok. Call me snobbish but most of my clothes are rapha and castelli so picking this up I can totally feel the difference in quality and fit but I am willing to give it a try.
Track pump - not used yet will try on the weekend and if no good, its going back.

I guess with everything you get what you pay for....

Popped in Bristol Brislington Lidl, bought some waterproof trousers for £5.99, and a couple of non-bib shorts for I think £6.99 each to go under my bib tights for commuting.

The shorts are actually pretty good for what they are, definitely better than Sports direct, I am happy with them.

The trousers will be boil in the bag I am sure but I will only need them in emergencies so should be fine.

They had no bib anything, no stands. Lots of jerseys, some gillets, socks, etc

Forgot about this event, couple of glasses of wine consumed now.

Only just started road cycling and wanted to pick up a cheapo jersey while I decide if I'm going to take it up. Assume they wont have anything tomorrow morning at cheap cheap prices?

I went for the gilet but left it. I was hoping for something to stuff in a back pocket but it weighs about the same as a suit of chain mail :?

If it had been anchovies stuffed with olives, then I would have bit your hand off.

Picked up a base layer, gloves and a gilet. Just been out and it is blowing pretty hard here and was impressed with the base layer and gilet, certainly kept the wind out. Gloves although fingerless are pretty comfy and warm as well. So overall pretty happy with the purchase. :)
  • Wore base layer for a quick spin out this afternoon in some pretty freezing and miserable conditions, very impressed wit the fit, comfort and certainly helped keep me warm. Gillet is a little baggy, might have to go back.

Anyone have experience with their track pumps? And the lights?

Bought a track pump at Lidl last year. It lasted two days. Took it back and they changed it. The new one lasted about 3 weeks. In particular, it was the nozzle bit that attached to the valve. It was made of a very low grade plastic so that the hinge on the lever just sheared away.

I ended up buying a Lezyne floor drive instead - money well spent.
Some things in Lidl are inexpensive. Others are just cheap.

  • Thanks very much to spaceman147 for opening this thread!!

Popped down to my local store & picked up some great buys .. Socks x2, Base Layers x2, Gillet, Gloves & Glasses .. £51. Impressed with the base Layers, very good fit. Gillet is a little baggy but i can cope with that!

Got some cheap Haribo that I have not tried before though :D
Track pump looked to be the best thing they had.

Just tried the Haribo and only hope the track pump is a better purchase!

Sell by date is mid 2014 but they are as hard as hell!
Not sure if they are a dodgy batch but I will not be buying Haribo 'Fruitini's' again to find out :(

We've been discussing this over in commuting chat too. Overall I'm unimpressed.

    Gilet: massively oversized
Socks: not the best quality and actually not that great value when compared to multibuy deals on proper brands.
Track pump: poor quality and I can't see it lasting long.
    Degreaser: useless.

Got some nice Parmesan, lots of nuts and a massive jar of pickles, though :)
  • Degreaser: useless.

Oh dear, I bought 2 cans. Should've bought the Parmesan and olives by the sounds of it.

Well it's acetone based, so no surprise there. That was why I bought it!

Tried out the gilet just now - for a tenner it's excellent, I thought. Medium was perfect for me, I'm very pleased with it.

Would have been worth it but even a small didnt fit me properly. Plus I already have 2 gilets so couldn't really justify a 3rd!
