Feel free to berate me but I do love my Rapha bike gear what with form & function both being high on the list of their output once you get of the arm & leg requirement to purchase their items. Normally a bit fan of their style of photography as quite into my B&W shots.
However today I as I'm sure many of you have received an email confirming their new city riding spring summer 2013 collection is out.
http://www.rapha.cc/city-riding-spring- ... sel-_-ss13
Is it me or does it look like a Gap/pod ad from back in the day only on a p poor budget. Plus I am an avid photographer myself but have never asked a model to stand there and "just look like your about to start licking the windows please, you know open your mouth and look like you have just escaped from a home or something"
Oh I'll give you a prize for guessing which model just did a poo in his jeans, either that or he's going for the frank spencer award
Rant over - sorry I am on medication today due to feeling unwell

I've never bought or worn any Rapha gear so cannot comment on the quality or functionality. However that has got to be the most pretentious website ever.........
........would not entice me to buy anything from them.0 -

I think you are too old for this collection... it is aimed for another crowd, clearly... you should stick to the National Jerseys and those with the stripe...left the forum March 20230 -

I think if I wore one of their national jerseys people would think me too old, plus at my old age (36) I would probably order the EBH colours :oops:Pain hurts much less if its topped off with beating your mates to top of a climb.0 -

TBH the styling is not that much different from Thorn or the new H&M BL collaboration so someone is buying it. All my gear from them does not look like that IMHO.Pain hurts much less if its topped off with beating your mates to top of a climb.0 -
As someone said, they are aiming at a different market. The fat forty+ mamils have gone bust0
-
They're trying far too hard. The photo's especially look absolutely pants. Really unappealing to me anyway0

The range is pretty much the same S/S City Riding kit from last year but in new colour ranges. That purple merino jersey looks boss. Photos are pretty good too - apart from the standing looking at a cobweb one which is daft.
You lot best get back to your Chinese team kit. Thinking about all this cool stuff will just hurt your heads.0 -
Yeah thats a pretty poor looking shoot from rapha, they normally do a lot better than that. It just looks a bit off brand. Needs more black and white, and middle distance gazing.0

Given the prices they charge, couldn't they afford better looking models?!0

What I find surprising is how people seem to enjoy berating Rapha for their prices, as with all premium products, regardless of brand, no one is forcing anyone to buy their products.
If you want expensive, take a look at the Brooks clothing range, now there is pricey:

I'm not against Rapha per se, but that does look like a still shot taken from Walking Dead....Your Past is Not Your Potential...0

Say what you like about it (and I agree, it just looks embarrassing) - but - the people at Rapha are not daft. There is a market for this stuff and they will sell it by the bucketload, I can assure you...0

Exactly... This line is aimed at a different market... And it will sell... If there is one thing Rapha does well is to set trendsleft the forum March 20230 -

+1 - you beat me to it. Stuff like this just reinforces perception that it's ok to laugh at people with learning disabilities. They get enough crap without stuff like this.0 -
Looks damn good for city wear.0
-
Pretentious, yes, but it's clearly aimed at the 'arty' city/commuter types.
I must admit I do like the Merino Hooded Top in purple. Whether I'd pay £140 for it is a different matter.0 -
bernithebiker wrote:Given the prices they charge, couldn't they afford better looking models?!
Sky excluded, quite a lot of the newer 'models' are either ex, current or new kids on the block professional cyclists. Take Julie Krasniak (be still my beating heart) and Jeremy Powers for example, or this young chap from the shoot who we'll no doubt be singing the praises of in a few years time:

Rapha have their sh1t together - deal with it.0 -
Isn't it more aimed at the city hip commuters out on their single speeds and fixies? Some of it looks ok I have the city 3/4 trousers long with some of their normal cycling kit. Expect a lot of it will be on bay very soon.
On the whole photoshoot thing I actually think they tried too hard with the b&w shots. If you don't lime the brand or prices don't buy it but I think it's great gear so will keep buying it.Scott Speedster S20 Roadie for Speed
Specialized Hardrock MTB for Lumps
Specialized Langster SS for Ease
Cinelli Mash Bolt Fixed for Pain
n+1 is well and truly on track

The kit looks good. Not sure about the photography, but it's about time they moved on from their 'done to death' b&w look.0

Everyone has their own taste and style.I prefer other brands to be honest but who am i to influence others.0

Basically it says Rapha so people have to jump on the hate it bandwagon. This isn't much different to Vulpine, Chrome, Swrv, Levis, H&M, Surface and other urban riding brands..0
