500 watts maximum power output. Cycling is motorsport.
Pain hurts much less if its topped off with beating your mates to top of a climb.

I thought he would be fatter than that, especially at this time of year.

Can we start a "should cyclists do weight training?" thread? Please! They're always such "fun"!

For some reason I've always found it very easy to forgive Jan his indiscretions.

I don't forgive him, but I know what you mean. I think it's because he comes across as a much nice human being than some of his doping contemporaries, particularly Armstrong.

500 watts? Is that even enough to latch onto the back of a Sky Train???

I still cheer at the laptop whilst watching coverage of the 2003 Tour and he pulls away (briefly) from Armstrong.

Yeah, you're right, forgive is too strong a word. Let's just say "ignore".

That might have been his bench mark output but with some extra...... preparation who knows what his actual output was!

not sure about a man who works out in front of a picture of his own leg, whilst wearing a t-shirt with his own picture on it

+1 - that bit is on my turbo training montage. watched it 100+ times and each time i go balls out more effort in in the vain hope that he gets a bit more time on the testicular amputee...

If you add steroids you can get proper legs like what Tom Platz had

When I see topics about legs I'm always reminded of the people who chime in asking whether or not they should shave their legs.

I always answer with the usual and say "only if they look better that way". Shaved chicken legs are, shall we say, LESS than appealing. Same with shaving fat thighs.
Ya gotta have it to show it off. No other excuse will do.

There is no excuse to shave your legs unless you re a pro and have a full time masseur following you around

That said it's a personal milestone in my switch from fat rugby player to...well...fat cyclist when I was easily keeping up with a group and I noticed that all the others in the group had shaved legs. Can still feel the inner smirk I had...

Its the best argument to start on a club ride, just chip it in there and make your excuses to leave amazing how heated the argument gets.

Regardless of how my legs look, typical fair Scot here, I hate my legs in cycling shorts when hairy. :D

Ahhhhh yes. Any article on legs worth it's salt has got to have a picture or two of good ole Tom Platz. He definately gives real meaning to the phrase "slabs of muscle".

    "proper legs"? Oh yeah.

I shaved my legs in the days I was racing.
FFS, Looks never came into it.
You have never ridden the the cycle racing tracks and stacked up with grazing on your legs.
Well a clean shaven leg is a lot less painful, old sport.
We also rode with 2 vests to save the friction on the body.

  • Of course you should shave your legs.

Hairy legs and lycra shorts look ridiculous.

Also, every other cyclist will, and should, laugh at you. If you've ever pinned on a number, you should shave your legs.
