IGaz. I start of at Middleton at the moor foot hills outside Edinburgh, Selkirk, Hawick, Bonchester Bridge, head to Newcastlon but turn off to go along Kielder water then along Hadrians Wall to Brampton. From Brampton to Newcastleton then Langholm, Innerleithen and back over the moorfoots.

90% roads very quiet and the return from Brampton to the moorfoots is an amazing ride on roads with very little if no traffic and a never ending succession of hills that are never that bad but when you have a lot of miles in your legs then you feel them

A high summer ride only to get enough daylight.

That sounds great Brian do you take Panniers or do food stops, also what bike do you use. Sounds like a fantastic route though

I'm doing the Raid Pyrenean in September. 5 days, 18 cols, 460 odd miles, 11000 metres ascent. Not sure if it counts as super endurance, but it should be fantastic.

Indeed it does sound fantastic. (will you be doing it in 100 hours, rather than 5 days?)

Very jealous. I'd like to give it a go sometime soon.

5 days to do it within the 100 hours. TBH I'm not sure doing it in 100 hours is all that difficult, should give plenty of time for leisurely lunches etc.

No - I don't think it's overly challenging (even for a slow audaxer like myself). It's 710km - for a normal 600km event we have 40 hours to ride that. There are some special category 600s in France (with over 10000m of ascent) where you'd get 50 hours. But I can do a hilly 600 in the UK with around 8500m of ascent in under 40 hours without issues. I've done a 1000km ride in Scotland with 12500m of climbing in under 75 hours. But all of these have involved reasonable amounts of riding at night and, as you say, restaurants and bars to be frequented, masses of photos to be taken etc. etc.

It'll be superb I am sure.

I may be giving the Bicycle Tour of Colorado another shot this year. Providing I can work up the courage.

It's a 6 day, 500(or so) miler with at least one high mountain pass each day. It's a tough grind what with some of the passes exceeding 11,000 feet.

Have done it 5 or so times in the past and each time I swear "never again". Then the event rears its ugly head in the form of emails and once again I tend to get sucked in, somehow. With myself it's usually a somewhat sucessful ride but it ain't pretty.

Well I'm in my first year of audaxing (had the beard before I started, sorry ;-)) and am trying for a super-randonneur series. That's a 200 km, 300km, 400km and 600 km ride in one season. Have done the 200 already, 300 is coming up on the 23rd and ... we'll take if from there.

Monseiur Marcusjb up there has already told me I'll be doing PBP in 2015 - I think he may be right - it is now officially my aim I think.

Considering I hadn't got on a bike in 10ish years before last May this stuff still constantly surprises me.

You are doing PBP in 2015.

No choice in the matter I am afraid.

Going to do a 200miles with 5000m plus of climbing ride this year. Done a similar route last year and it was epic and did it all on my own. Something crazy about disappearing into the hills for over 14 hours and it feels like you have had far too much for one day despite feeling thoroughly knackered
Love the road over the moorfoots, wish it went on for ever though. Ever been hit by a golf ball or knocked over by a sheep on there?
  • Hi anybody doing Styrkeproven next year2017. I am hoping to do it. I have never cycled it before. Was wondering about extra cycling clothing if conditions were poor. I notice ordinary teams are not allowed support vehicles. Does anybody know if there is any arrangements to have a change of cycling clothing without having to carry a back pack?

Planning to enter next year's Rovaniemi 300 - only 300km but time cut is 5 days  Did the 150km last year - it took 39.5hrs and half the field didn't finish - probably something to do with pushing a bike for a 100k out of 150k - brutal! Hoping it will be a bit colder next year - fresh snow and warm temps (minus 10) made it a bit of a sweat-fest this year.
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..

Take a look at the Haute Route events (Pyrenees, Alps and Dolomites) which run every August. Depending on how crazy you are you can do 1 week, 2 weeks or full 3 weeks back to back. Each week is approx 800km 20,000m of climbing and basically a marmotte style route every day for 7 days.

Did the Alps week last year and it IME definitely a super endurance event, especially if you 'race' it. The guys who do the full three weeks are bonkers but hard as nails !

...erm, I'm a volunteer dot watcher (level 2!) for the transcontinental race which starts tomorrow night

(usually I do the odd 24hr MTB race and like a bit of bikepacking, though I accept that I don't "race" them...)
