You have trouble with white forks?... try the whole bike! haha. Matte white looks ace but is a real shit to keep clean. Usual scenario - clean and polish the bike sunday. Monday it throws it down.

I've stripped and cleaned the BB, replaced the cassette and chain (this was required anyway) and checked the bolts on my rear dropouts (they were tight). The creaking is still there, only when climbing out of the saddle though. I'm still trying to track down the correct lower headset bearing unit size as the markings have corroded off on mine. Waiting on a reply from ridley.

Baby wipes are ideal for cleaning the matte finish.

Degreaser on a tissue works for me :o

Apparently Damocles is from a fable about a greek dude once threatened by a sword.

Hve you tried putting some light lube to the contact faces of your pedals and cleats? A lot of the time, BB type creaks are due to these and not actually the BB.

    The sword of Damocles
    Is hanging over my head
And I've got the feeling someone's gonna be cutting the thread
    Oh woe is me
    My life is a misery
    Oh can't you see
That I'm at the start of a pretty big downer

For future reference, if anyone needs the specs for the headtube/headset then I've attached the drawings which Ridley kindly provided.

I tracked my creaking noise to a stiff rear ultegra mech in the end.

    Useful info thanks Dezza.

I destickered my 4ZA wheels this evening as the blue on the vinyl was making my OCD twitch a little.

You'll have to take my word that it looks OK as I can't be bothered to get the camera out today.
  • Just ordered a Damocles ISP size XL (Yes I'm 6'6" and need a saddle height of 84.5 and a 416 reach) from wiggle for £1,050 with the 105 kit.

Thanks for all the info here inspiring confidence in my purchase :)

    Can't wait...

For a smidge over a grand that represents astonishingly good value.

I've done over 750 miles on mine now and still adore it.

Ha... IF ONLY it was true!

I've got a parktool BBT-9 on the way so i'll clean and regrease the bottom bracket to see if that helps.

I did a whole bunch of reading about creaks when out of the saddle and ended up:
    - Greasing the dropouts both front and rear
    - Greasing the headset spacers
    - Checking the front mech band was tightened

I know that it sounds like it's coming from the BB, but mine did too. I did all of the above and 20 min of riding to work this morning getting out of the saddle plenty to test it and it's quiet as a mouse, so totally recommend trying these before you bother with the BB...
Did this solve things long term?

Mine has begun to creak :(

I got to the bottom of my creak. The bolts holding the drive side rear dropout had worked themselves loose.

One was missing completely and another was about to go so the scandium bits were rubbing against each other.

Full bare frame service and completely silent :)

Sorry, I missed your earlier message. I tracked mine down to the chain in the end, dry lube is shit.
  • Loving mine, also a Wiggle 50% off special.

Found this thread via a Google "creaking Ridley Damocles" search, classic.
