Injury time

Hello all

Recently I have had more time on my hands which meant I could extend the length of my regular rides. I spent about 2 weeks riding roughly 35-40 miles a day (With a few 20% climbs each ride), with about 3 rest days in between. Last wednesday I went for a slow 25miler, and in the last few miles I started to feel pain on every pedal rep on my right leg in the thighs. It is hard to pin-point which specific muscle was hurting but it was around the quads.

I haven't been on the bike in a week and tried hopping on the rollers this morning, as soon as I started pedalling I could feel the pain return quite quickly, so I stopped.

I've been able to walk absolutely fine in the last week, but after about 1 minute on the rollers this morning, my right thigh feels extremely tight and walking has become a lot harder.

I'm guessing I have just strained it? But after a week I would have expected it to calm down a little..

Any advice would be appreciated.

Cheers my dears

Might not be the muscle could be your ITB. Either way both are an easy fix with some stretches or self massage. Not going to bore you with the ones I use but if you look on google there are loads out there that should be able to sort you out in no time at all.
Pain hurts much less if its topped off with beating your mates to top of a climb.

Sounds similar to my experience about a year ago. My thigh got extremley tight and hurt on the bike.

I went to a sports thingy-ma-jig and she gave me a routine of exercises to complete, and also more importantly a routine of exercises and stretches to do after each ride or workout. Since taking her advise, my legs have been fine and never suffered like it again. For me, it was basically the muscles locking and knotting up and she showed me a way of breaking it down.

This was down to an increase in workouts from riding once or twice a week to four or five times.
