Early days but there's a 3-man break over the first climb of the day...and Tommy V's in it plus Meersman and Tschopp

They have just 15s on the peloton

    7 men up front now

Seven men in the lead: Thomas Voeckler (EUC), Johann Tschopp (IAM), Gianni Meersman (OPQ), Hubert Dupont (ALM), Romain Sicard (EUS), Michael Morkov (TST) and Warren Barguil (ARG).

3.20 on the peloton at KM 66. Lost 30s in the last 16km

    Monty, TV.

He's 1:30 back on GC so might be allowed a little leeway. But I fear the thunderous hordes chasing a late De Gendt/TVG/Chava break. Not to mention the 7 Garmin diesels  on the front trying to pull him back before days high mark.

Break doomed. Morkov is in it.
  • Come on De Gendt, attack today please. PTP points required...

This could be good. Similar finish to yesterday I reckon. Gilbert to have a go if he's allowed.

Think this is the same finish as Criterium de dauphine stage last year where Cadel won. That was a superb finish. Cadel attacking on the descent and causing panic. Andy got dropped going up the climb.

Climb is 3km long at 6.5% average and 9km from the finish.

28km to go with the gap down to 50s.

Voeckler attacks, Dupont latches, Voecker drops him.

    Qunitana attacks, reeled back, but

Barguil in the break - lets see what he can do. And guess who else - Sicard. Been a long time since we have heard anything from him...

20km. Voeckler and Dupont go over with only 30 secs to spare.

Well if that was a test run for the next climb then there will be plenty of attacks to come. Verging on some very exciting racing there, i don't think anyone really wanted to give it 100% yet, though.

Gilbert dropped (apparently was pulling a lot today).

Damn, don't think i've scored a single PTP point so far this year.

I feel like such a moron. How long has Eurosport been available on Sky Go for?

Just checked loads of streams with none working for me, checked out Sky go (looking for Tirreno) and found I can get P-N.

Basso dropped. Talansky keeping at the head of affairs but has no support.

Looks like Westra had a near miss there on the descent.

Over the top then Westra attacks on the descent. Talansky needs to get him. Chavanel goes again. TJ there. All together.

Head on shot of the finish always foreshortens those margins. It looked a lot closer than that to start with!

No one with the legs to make an attack stick. Good end to the race though.

    Talansky retains the overall.

Top 5 results for the stage:
    1. Michael Albasini (Switzerland, OGE)
    2. Maxim Iglinskiy (Kazakhstan, AST)
    3. Peter Velits (Slovakia, OPQ)
    4. Enrico Gasparotto (Italy, AST)
    5. Robert Gesink (Netherlands, BLA)

Gesink looked good for a second. Hopefully a sign he has good legs for tomorrow.

Question is, what happened to Quintana?
