Watched it today as away on the weekend, bloody good race indeed.

You've had a good go at it Frenchie but that kit still looks awful.

Nice bike, shame about the kit?

I've always thought the kit is ok. Not great but not as bad as people make out. Very clean due to not many sponsors. I'd prefer it wasn't brown though.

  • Nibali tweet to Pozzato after the race, following Pippo's mistaken celebration for "winning" the sprint:
"I wanted to tell you, but there wasn't time - hahaha."

Have to say I don't find it as bad as some of the other kits out there in the peloton. Brown would not be my favourite choice but with less sponsorship names showing it looks a lot less cluttered than some of them out there.

With race radios not allowed in UCI Europe Tour level races, the riders competing in Roma Maxima had to rely on the official motorbike blackboard and their own teams for race information.

Nibali looking very active early season. Am sure he will go all out to win MSR.

Pretty crazy they are racing in streets like this.

Well I was Lucky to watch it live and as it proceeded through villages like these I thought this had a good chance to be as good a regular race as the North Europe races.
Then we got the "too long" wide open and flat roads to the finish which would have ruined it for me except for an outstanding ride by a Frenchman.

So Radio's back for MSR will mean another bunch sprint because of the long flat finish.
Put the MSR finish back to the one kilometer after the Pogio where it was when Kelly won or loose the radio's for another exciting finish.

The finish line is the problem in 1993 and because of the stupidity of the officials stopping there is the reason they moved the finish 2 Km's further down around the corners.
I remember Mario Cippolinni being involved in that pile up and then using his bike to attack the stationary car and throwing very choice words at the driver.
    Yes I've been there.

1994 the Gewiss rider Giorgio Furlan solo'd the extra Km's to win
1995 Fondriest and Jalabert got away to win
1996 Colombo (Gewiss) solo'd to win.

1997 The Telekom team brought a bunch to the finish and from then on it has been a sprint fest with the "Poggio" playing just a little part with Bettini and Pozzato being the exceptions.

I would like to see a Sagan or Gilbert get a distance on the Poggio and their teams keep blocking the sprint teams to get an exciting finish like this Maxima Roma.
