  • I dont like Halfords ......or Boardmans.......or Chris Boardman......

........but I think you've just converted me.. That looks awesome :D

Whats up with Chris Boardman? Met him several times and his mum and dad Carol and Keith, loverly family, totally down to earth.

    He's not Graeme Obree.

You bet me to it! I watched the documentary on You Tube about the hour record (part 1 here http://youtu.be/K3DwhbUGUIg) and Boardman seemed a bit of a fool to be honest.

Being a Scot I would never buy a Boardman, but your bike does look nice.

EDIT: Love the profanity filter on here! Let's just say I didn't write fool initially!

SECOND EDIT: Having just watched some of that again, Boardman is an absolute wan**r!

Your entitled to your opinion but having met the whole family several times, i'll refer to what I previously said.

Thanks mate...will do but it may be a while :D

I've been using it in anger this month and it's the first bike I've ever owned that feels so 'alive'. It's light, responsive which, coupled with an 'electric-like' gear change makes it fabulous to ride.

That looks great, ignore the halfords comment, you can buy Giro helmets and Continental tyres in there does that mean they shouldn't be used? Brand snobbery, that thing looks the nuts

    And Pinarellos.

Great bike. I've probably said that about five times now but I absolutely love these.

I guess, its just i can afford one high end road bike and i dont want to make the wrong choise as di2 is the future if you could stick DA Di2 on one of these that would be gr8

I must admit that I haven't used Di2 but I run Red on the good bike and D/A mechanical on the fast trainer and they are both nicer than Campy electric (used at Ironman Italia last Italia set up by Camp factory team and it was, errrr, very average).

I personally would prefer a spot on all round perfection - ie excellent frame, forks, wheels, groupset as per Air ) rather than bling gruppo and average everything else.

But that's just me - if I were you I'd head down the shop and take both for a ride and see what you think.

If you're weight conscious, Red 11 is, I believe, much lighter than Di2 etc ........................ However, I am again willing o be proven wrong. .

As an aside, Fabian still runs mechanical with no problems in the Classics - if its good enough for him .................

I've bought 2 relatively expensive Boardmans (£1k MTB, £1.6k Road) from Halfords and have had nothing but top notch service from when I initially visited to purchase. Both were built perfectly well.

My suggestion is to not let Halfords put you off. You can purchase the bike unbuilt or have a LBS give it a once over once purchased. These bikes used to be fantastic value for money so worth it. Think prices have started to go up now they're more established but still reasonable.

My bike has never seen Halfords, nor does it have any need to. I have a fabulous LBS I use when necessary although its coming up for a year now since I bought it and it has been faultless.

I've now done over 1000kms on it and it never fails to impress with its speed, responsiveness and surprising levels of comfort given its stiffness.

The wheels have been great too, no brake squealing as was threatened with the Exalith braking surface and they have remained straight and true despite our rough Surrey roads.

All in all, I am delighted with it and if they are still available, would strongly recommed the Boardman to anyone.

To rprise previous discussions, Halfords are no better or worse than any LBS - the branding of the shop doesn't matter, its the man/woman wilding the spanners and trust me, there are some fukkin' monkeys in some places that aren't Halfords .......................................
  • Its a lovely bike, will everyone stop talking about Halford as you can't buy the elite series in there!

    Read the freakin' thread!
  • I currently have a 9.8Air with SRAM red so I know how good these bikes are. I have loved every mile of the last 12 months. The ltd edition Red does suit the colour scheme! Enjoy!

I prefer mine I think, the new one seems very dark....or maybe it's my groupset.

Now, can everyone stop talking about them because mine is tucked away for the winter and I'm desperate to get out on it again so this thread resurrection is driving me nuts
