Short Manchester training loop?

Living in South Manchester, I'd love to be able to get out in the evening after work and knock out an hour or so riding laps of some short and simple local road circuit that'd be free of the things that normally make attempts at urban training either too 'stop-start' (i.e. traffic lights, endless junctions, speed humps) or too dangerous (i.e. high traffic volumes, poor visibility to speeding vehicles in the dark). Any suggestions?
Does Manchester have its equivalent of the Richmond Park circuit? No, I'm not asking for a large deer park. But what about industrial estates that go quiet after 6pm, uncluttered flowing suburban stretches, quirky edgeland link roads to refuse sites or golf courses? I'm sure one or two of you out there must have a secret favourite that's evading my Google Map searches. Save me from the turbo!

I'm looking for a similar type of thing at the moment. Currently i go from didsbury through Northenden, Styal, Handforth, Cheadle, Didsbury. About 45 mins at pace. Some nice long section so i can do 5mins at high pace but its still not perfect. The Alderly Edge bypass past Wilmslow is good as it has wide footpaths that cyclists can easily use and has roundabouts at both ends. I use this for long Zone 3/4 sessions. Otherwise around Mobberly you can work out circuits. Not very much near to the city though.0

The gates are locked at 7pm and they don't let you through after that.
But you're right, some beautiful roads round here.0 -

If you live near Sale, Timperley or Altrincham I would recommend heading out towards Lymm starting at Sinderland Road or Atlantic Street and coming back through Dunham Town. There's a lot of country lanes you can choose and you don't even have to go so far as Lymm itself.0
