Hi, So I'm fairly new to roadbiking but already seemed to have encountered some nasty drivers on the road.
Was wondering if you could share some of your stories? :P
If you wish to check out my channel (in the process of uploading alot of footage) then please do!

Generally I find that issues are 50/50 and road-rage ridden cyclists like you are half of the problem.
However the one thing that winds me up is the Road Tax debate and the sheer ignorance to the facts from most motorists.

You state that vulnerable road users should be given plenty of room, yet plough through a group of pedestrians with no apparent intention of slowing or stopping0
-
And also pass up the inside of moving traffic - in contravention of the Highway Code.0
-
I'm not sure this has ever been discussed before, have you tried the commuting threads?0
-
I personally cant stand the "camera cyclists"... YP02 blah blah, "I have a camera"... so??? and then you look at the police car to say "did you see that, arent you going to nick him".. seriously!!
I spend hours on the road cycling every month, and get cut up, left hooked, beeped at.. there nowt that will change, by shouting at cars you will only provoke a situation you dont need!
You can get hit walking on a pavement by a bus as a 25 year old girl found out in my town a couple of years ago!
These camera guys make me cringe!0 -
Yes it was a poor overtake & yes they should have given you more room.
But as others have stated, undertaking & driving at pedestrians when you could have just as easily gone round as coming down the lane you were in the middle of the road and had you continued instead of turning you would have easily passed them.
Unfortunately your not going to get you much in the way of sympathy from me as any other road user seeing you & not the incident may well consider your riding style as an issue.Pain hurts much less if its topped off with beating your mates to top of a climb.0 -
Please consider what you are doing carefully. You are close to becoming a danger to yourself. I found that when I started using a video camera to record the actions of other drivers I started taking a deliberate stance during cycling just to show that I was right, even if it meant maintaining a very dangerous situation. It could also prove detrimental to the image of cyclists if you go charging down bad drivers, shouting expletives in public. I've done it myself and it never got me anywhere except angry with myself afterwards for sinking lower than the offending party. Lose the camera, brush off the idiots lest you become one yourself, and enjoy the freedom that the drivers don't have. Yes, it is frustrating feeling that there is absolutely nothing one can do, but it really is down to education, and that isn't going to happen with public video clips on you-tube. By all means, record your incidents but make them private and link to them from Stop SMIDSY. Better still, record some nice rides where there is something interesting other than idiot drivers. Seriously, the road warrior attitude is dangerous and shows us up in a bad light.
As a side note, I know full well that the police don't care much for cyclists turning up with camera footage for them to see. If you are concerned that you are going to be involved in an accident and that is why you use a camera then you are already assuming the worst is going to happen, and that really saps the enjoyment from cycling.0 -
Why are the cars in YP02 driving on the right? Is the image inverted?
Also will need to take OP's word for it that the drivers as close as he says. As far as I can tell the footage doesn't seem to show any evidence that he was 'clipped'.0 -
Fecking hell the other posters are being kind to you - you ride like a tit - whats the point of cycling straight into a group of school kids - heres a tip if you come a group again, slow down - they'll either hear the bike or you'll get close enough safely that you can give a shout.
The overtaking car did nohing wrong - you get wagons pass closer than that - so it unnerved you, but if you did a 20 mile ride is it worth be angry for something that happened on 15ft of that 20 miles - enjoy the bike, but dont think that because there are tit head drivers out there that you have to ride like one. Share the road - it sbetter for all concerned. The dissenter is every human being at those moments of his life when he resigns

Some people drive like dicks. Some people ride bikes like dicks. Not all do as we know. But it doesn't matter what they are using as a mode if transport or whatever else in life they are doing, the world if full of these complete and utter dicks. You just have to accept they exist in society and move on hoping your interaction with them today will be minimal. It's got nothing to do with bike vs car. It's sane reasonable human beings vs complete and utter dicks. That's life no matter where you are.
People need to look at themselves in the mirror and decide with category they fall into.0 -
I'm confused!? (It happens)
1. What is the OP complaining at, seemed to undertake the car??
2. What country is this in, as everything is on the right hand side?Trainer Road Blog: https://hitthesweetspot.home.blog/

Fairly new to road cycling, you have a lot to learn. Iv been riding to work for the last year and I'm pretty sure I ride better than that!! Riding through a group of children??? Just stupid! Yes maybe card do get a little close but there is no need to ride up alongside the car and give abuse. I think a lot of the posts above will be the same from many on this forum.
Bin the camera and ride properly!!0 -
Anyone that drives through a group of kids like that (is he scaring them to make some kind of point?) deserves no respect whatsoever.
If he then goes on to complain about impatient car drivers (that make a point by revving their engines to scare cyclists), he's also a complete hypocrite.
@OP: you're not doing the rest of us any favours by acting like a complete arse.
Stop yelling at people, and stop wasting people's time with these pointless vids.Is the gorilla tired yet?0 -

Technology is a pain, and I also can't stand cyclists/motorcyclists and even car drivers, trying to film things when they think they've wronged by someone else. I'm surprised that you're actually allowed to post footage of people and accusing them of things that you think they are guilty of.0 -
What is it about having a camera strapped to your head that makes you automatically correct.
This guy is a fucking nutter. Trying to run down school kids and pulling out right in front of cars. The overtakes in your videos aren't awful to be honest.
Take the camera off and cycle around on some nice quiet roads for a bit until you calm down.0 -
I'd just like to let you all know that I do go to school with the people that were standing in the road, they do it EVERY DAY. They do it to annoy we aswel, I got a comment from someone in the lunch hall asking why I bother slowing down for them, (it was one of the idiots standing there) - So I just went through the gap. It's simple really, they were standing in the road, with no intention to move! I wouldn't have normally done this with public pedestrians, but I knew them and they were in the way, on purpose.
I also understand that I went down the inside of traffic but I needed to get to the red car, the van driver behind me did usher me to go in front of him which I did nod a thank-you, he also backed me up further down the road and told me he was too close!
When I upload more footage you'll see that I'm not always that angry, I'd already had 2 close calls that day and wasn't in the best of moods. Was really trying to prove a point!0 -
It just looks like it proves the point that many non-cycling drivers already have, that cyclists are stupid ****s.
Each to their own, but why do you do it? Hoping the BBC might give you a series0 -

Car drivers are human and can make mistakes, maybe the red car was too close, but does that give you the right to abuse them? I can only echo what everyone else has already said, loose the camera, loose the bad ass attitude, ride more considerately and enjoy your youth before - at this rate it might be at an end sooner than you planned.Summer - Canyon Ultimate CF SLX 9.0 Team

Shutup. Cycling your little legs off to have a go at someone who came a bit close gives everyone a bad name.0
-
It happens to everybody get over it, there are always going to be idiot drivers on the road. And to be honest your an idiot for the way you ride your bike, it's just dangerous. You could get round problems like this if you rode safely. Maybe you should learn how the ride on the road safely maybe out in The sticks and lose the attitude to other road users and just enjoy cyclingFelt AR3 2015

I'd rather not have my own series :P
Look I'm not trying to harm anyone, or give anyone a bad name.. I cycled in London commuting and non-commute for over a year. I suppose I'm used to the way road users treat each other, and influenced by others on Youtube. I'm not going to loose the camera but I'll try and be less.. Irate?
Where I live drivers are quite laid back and don't really think about cyclists at all. What happened did scare me because I've never actually been touched by a passing car. Obviously from my perspective it was totally out of order and he needed to know about it. As for the children in the road, well.. as I explained they know me, and I know them. It's something that happens all the time, just normally they wouldn't be expecting me to plow through the middle of them
I'm glad that you have all given your feedback though! Just don't give me unnecessary hate
I'm just doing what hundreds of others do, and in future video's you'll see a slightly different side
Thanks!0 -
arthurdefy wrote:Just don't give me unnecessary hate
Why not at least consider that perhaps it's your attitude to things that could do with revision, given that the consistent response to your videos is that you're the one behaving badly.I'm just doing what hundreds of others do
Seriously, car drivers have a bad enough view of cyclists already, without making it worse. Riding after drivers shouting 'd1ckhead' at them is really not going to do anything to persuade them that they're in the wrong. Is the gorilla tired yet?0 -
How old are you BTW? You seem to have quite a deep voice for a school kid. The kids you nearly ploughed into cannot be much more than 13 and 14 so I doubt you mix with them much even if you were 16. Or as I assume you are trying to cover your tracks for being a tw@t.0
-
they don't split age groups up at school, and there are only 500 of us there,e everyone knows everyone. Kinda nice but the banter is.. well.. everything is banter.0
-
For kids you know from school. they don't seem to acknowledge your presence up until you are right on top of them. Not much banter to be seen really.
Also 500 seems like the size of an average comprehensive. i Think they split kids up in schools that large.0 -
The banter was the end where toby shouted: "fu**ing hell" - And just to put your mind at rest I saw him in DL today and he said he laughed at the video
Honestly, I wouldn't have done that to stranger :P0 -
But you prepared to race up to and swear and shout at strangers in cars?0
