Mine is making a racket in most gears and the shifting is a mile out. I've fiddled with the barrel adjuster but it hasn't improved things and may have even made things worse.
Looks like a might have to nip down to the LBS and get them to sort it. Which isn't ideal...0 -
I'm sure canyon would be helpful if you got in touch. Obviously these things can happen when bike is travelling 100's of miles. You should try & get the knack of adjusting the gears, because you will have to do it again in a few weeks when the cables are stretched. I'm geting the knack of it, but my practise has mainly been on my other bike which is sram, hoping the shimano is similar.0
-
Refer to the Shimano installation technical docs, they explain it very well and should make life easy to adjust it in future.0
-
I had to turn the barrel adjuster for the rear gear cable two quarter turns after my first ride, then another two quarter turns after my second ride. After that the gear shifting has been great. (Although I've only ridden it four times so far - once in a race though).
Canyon provide some Technical Support docs that covers most of these things too:

Has the geometry changed on the CF's since last years model?
What sort of size would you think for someone 174cm tall and inseam 81cm? Looks like a toss up between a 52 or 54, the former with a longer stem.Cheers, Stu0 -
That's basically my height and I have the 52. The 54 would likely be too big. The reach on the 52 and 54 is the same so you should need the same stem size.
Differences between 52 and 54:
2cm less seatpost showing on the 54
1cm higher at the front
There is enough saddle setback options that the difference in seattube angle won't stop you from getting the right position either.
My guess is that with that inseam and the 54, the "Canyon" logo on the seatpost will only _just_ be showing. The 52 would look better and probably fit you better too.0 -
I'd be leaning that way tbh, i have a medium Boardman Team carbon which has a 53cm seat tube and 555mm effective TT length with a 110mm stem and I sometimes think it could do with a 90-100mm stem. Seat post is showing ~7-8cm.
Maybe the 52cm with a 100mm or 110mm stem might be better as it would be circa 20mm shorter than what i currently have and that doesnt feel a million miles away to me.
If you dont mind me asking what other figures did you measure for yourself assuming you input them into the Canyon sizing system? ie torso, arm, shoulder.Cheers, Stu0 -

Only if you have the right length arms. If you look at my set up (on a bigger size) on page 1, the size smaller would have looked better but the bigger size FITTED better and in reality it is the fit which is the primary concern. The comparatively long seat tube length is may only quibble with the Canyon Ultimate CF and this is made worse for the short legged brigade with the new sizing scheme of the CF SLX and Ultimate ALCoach H. (Dont ask me for training advice - 'It's not about the bike')0 -
This bike with Chorus 11 is another consideration of mine. Seems like best bang for buck though. I think the SLX is out of my price range so will have to settle for one of these.
Good value? https://www.canyon.com/_en/roadbikes/bike.html?b=30870 -
Is there any way to order a different length stem than standard when placing an order?Cheers, Stu0
-
Yes you can request a different length stem. They charge 20 euros.
Gabbo: it's an excellent bike. I don't think opting for the CF over the SLX is really "settling". If you want Campag, that one is great. I couldn't be happier with my Ultegra version.0 -
Thanks, jsut doing some calcs as mentioned earlier in the thread with stack and reach and comparing them to my medium Boardman Team Carbon. I feel this is slightly too big, could do with a 10-20mm shorter stem (stock is 110mm).
http://www.boardmanbikes.com/road/road_team_carbon.html
Comparing it to the 52 Canyon CF using this website for easy trig calcs as Boardman doesnt list stack and reach figures.
Boardman stack/reach
507mm / 400mm
CF 52 stack/reach
547mm / 387mm
Seems the Boardman is quite a racy frame geo?
Going off this the CF will be a little higher (i have about 15mm of spacers on the Boardman although have ridden it for a while with 25mm, no real difference to me!) and 13mm shorter in effective top tube.
Given the feeling i need a slightly shorter stem on the Boardman and the fact the Boardman has a 110mm stem i think i would be best going for a 100mm stem on the CF....sound about right? Overall that would make it 23mm shorter in reach.Cheers, Stu0 -

How did you request it, is there a box or option to select before you pay?
Also is yours a double or compact, i'm wondering if 15mm of spacers might be better than 25mm (i'd be buying a compact but could hopefully request less spacers)?Cheers, Stu0 -
There is a box you can fill out when placing the order. That's where I requested the different stem.
I have the standard double.
Now back to the bike! I've raced on it four times. No wins or results yet but the bike feels great and the season is long.

Nice to read some about your Canyon, I'm also planning to buy one this month but need to wait 2 weeks before it is available again in Koblenz. I live in the Netherlands and am planning to drive to Koblenz to test and let them customize the bike to my body. I'm 1,96 meter tall, and currently ride a Bulls 105 61 cm with a 13 cm stem.
I'm still hesitating between a 60 and 62 cm frame, since I find a smaller frame better looking and saves some grams
The only possible downside is that Canyon only has a double crankset available and no compact anymore and I like to ride in Flanders where for instance the Koppenberg is a 20% ascent. I do not know if 39/25 is a sufficiently light gear. Maybe I should ask them to fit a 11-28 cassette...
The photos are great, really see forward to get the bike and turn it in a stealthy looking bikeCanyon Ultimate CF 9.0

@displacedaussie why did you change the tires? Not satisfied with the Mavic Yksion ones?Canyon Ultimate CF 9.0

I didn't even try them. I love the 25mm GP4000s and so put a new pair on straight away. The Yksion's are unused in a box on the shelf!0

My plan was to swap to GP4000s too, but I gave the Yksions a run and now I've done a few hundred kms on them I really like them. Roll nicely and plenty of grip. Impressed.FCN 3 / 40 -
@displacedaussie the fact that Canyon let those tires on the wheels instead of the GP4000's says somethingCanyon Ultimate CF 9.0

Bit too much wall there...0 -
@displacedaussie how much does your 52" weigh?
I'm curious if it differs a lot with my 62" I'm picking up in two days.Canyon Ultimate CF 9.0

New Dura Ace 7850 C50 tubular wheels arrived last night.

Looks 10x better with those dura ace's on!0

I moved (back home) to Adelaide in October. The bike came with me on the plane but these wheels made their slow way over on a container. They finally arrived today and they're back on, ready to race!
1 year on and I still love this bike. 7100km, 39 races, 3 wins. Next purchase is likely to be a Stages power meter if I can sneak it on without the wife noticing!0 -
Should be pretty easy - its only small!0

Looks like a beautiful bike! Nice choice! Going to be hiring one of these during my 2 week holiday to Majorca in July!
Enjoy it!2013 Bianchi Vertigo Carbon with Campagnolo Zondas
