Kuota - Lancia. You know its Italian but why does it have to look so F@ck ugly?
De Rosa - Pagani - What Italian design SHOULD look like

I'm not letting this go! Aside from Paganis looking a bit vulgar, here are Lancias (sorry, not posting the current ones too many of which are dodgy Chryslers so not even a hint of Italian breeding!)

Lancia aren't like Kuota - too much history for that. Kuota are actually more like Pagani (rather showy looking products from companies that have been around for five minutes) and Look or Time more like Lancia (ie a company whose products are (or at least were) focussed more on genuine engineering than overblown superficial styling!)

What is the third one down?

    Absolutely beautiful......

The third one down maybe some sort of Appia Zagato version. The top one, the Flaminia is one of my dream cars. Stunning. I've owned 2 Beta Coupe's, not strictly proper Lancia's (these were made after the Fiat take over) but still my favourite out of all the cars I've owned.

And you're right, Lancia are nothing like Kuota.

Bianchi = Fiat: most of their production is volume bike for the mass market and have a dodgy rep for quality and eventually will fall apart at some point in the future ;-)

Pinarello = Lancia: used to make some quality, handcrafted product in the past but now resign themselves to sticking stickers on product made elsewhere (think Chryslers)

Orbea = Seat: again using someone else's expertise.

Any bike being ridden by a pr*ck with a total disregard for others = Audi

Cervelo = Alfa Romeo: independent brand with a famous past now subsumed into a mass market producer. Future products likely to be based on jazzed-up cheaper models (i.e. like Fiats).

Trek = GM, produce a few decent models but in general just meh!
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..

Correct. Mind you, all Appias are delightful. What the pic doesn't show is that you could quite easily pick that car up and put it in your pocket - they are tiny! If you can't fit in one, there is a Flaminia version for full size people (though as you can see these aren't large).

    Zagato_Lancia_Flaminia_Sport_3C_1962_3287_06.jpg

And just incase of further queries, from top

    1) Lancia Flaminia Touring Coupe (notably substituted for the Aston Martin that wasn't dropped over a cliff in The Italian Job!)
    2) Lancia Aurelia B20 Coupe
    3) Lancia Appia Zagato
    4) Lancia Flavia Pininfarina Coupe 2000 (like mine)
    5) Lancia Gamma Coupe
    6) Lancia Fulvia Coupe.

I think Montys depressing post is the closest so far!

Tough call. Ones a not particularly attractive family saloon with a lot of not particularly attractive family saloon competition. The other's a not particularly attractive supercar with a lot of not particularly attractive supercar competition. They are pretty much the same within their own separate niches.

And (apart from the Fiat Gamma) all named after Roman roads. My dad saw a Flaminia Touring Coupe for £22,000 the other week. I was tempted to sell both kidneys...

For some reason I really like 1960s Alfa Romeo Guilettas:

A bit like a modern day Tomassini or Colnago Master - not the lightest or fastest, but gorgeous to ride or just standing still.

Yep, another dream car of mine. I also love the Giulia Coupe's which Alfa brought out a few years later

Difficult to align modern day Alfa's with a bike brand - perhaps as people have mentioned, Bianchi are a good fit.

For me, Legend bikes = Aston Martin.

I know Aston's are British, but Legend's are handbuilt, incorporate cutting edge materials, have great performance and handling and above all ooze understated class. They're not vulgar but show the owner has 'taste'. They're also expensive!

True if only that meant the higher end models were made in Germany and owned by a lunatic in America

Oh, the Pagani. But off the racetrack I doubt it would be much fun (and on the racetrack I'd rather have a go in a BRM P261!). No suspension, no tyre wall thickness, far too large, far too powerful. An Elise would be twice as enjoyable.

But forget not that 'Gamma' is part of the older tradition of Lancia naming. it was only after the Lambda that they gave up on Greek letters and started on ancient roads. Then of course, the letters resurfaced in the 70s with the Beta and most since have followed the same line. The Ypsilons tend to be quite nice little things.

  • Agree with that. Even though I have an SL4 Sworks which, it would seem, is being described as a Ford XR3i !!

    Surely it's a GT40?

    Pinarello is definitely Ferrari

Beautiful and very capable but more likely to be seen pootling slowly around Richmond by a fat dentist than being used in anger around a track.

You obviously never saw a Ferrari mondial. Or an F50. Hideous cars. Mr Pininfarina must have had the day off when they designed them 2 .
