Bike brands and their four wheeled equivalents

As well as cycling I also drive and stuck in traffic today I got thinking that it might be fun to try and match bike brands with their car making equivalent. i.e which brand of bike is most comparable to a high end marque such as Aston Martin, which is like Mercedes, still at the expensive end but attainable, and which is like a more affordable one, Ford for instance.
Which bikes are most aspirational and desirable, and which merely make you shrug your shoulders and say 'meh'.
Any thoughts/suggestions??

Canyon - Mercedes (Both German) Quality & nice looking.
Specialized - Ford (Cater for all levels of cycling, but also target 'family' type bikes, & cover all price ranges. Very commercial)
Hmm...this is actually quite difficult.
I guess a nice Steel option like Van Nicholas would be something like an Aston?
I don't know, i drive a 10 year old clapped out Renault Laguna! So not sure what that would resemble in bike comparisons? Something cack i think.0 -

Car manufacturers have their own production plants, while bike manufacturers are little more than stickers to apply to frames made in pretty much the same place, so the comparison is irrelevant. They are unfortunately much of a muchness, with irrelevant differences and analogous reliability/problems. The differences in price reflect the number of vulturs that profiteer from the factory to the sale and the advertising involved, rather than the quality of the product
So there...left the forum March 20230 -

Agree with that. Even though I have an SL4 Sworks which, it would seem, is being described as a Ford XR3i !!0 -

Not that different - VW=Audi=Skoda=Seat=Lamborghini=Porsche=Bentley and plenty more like it. They might be made in the different places but there is a lot of component overlap (even the snazzy Breitling clock you get in the Bentleys is exactly the same as the clock in a Passat ) and a tendency for the same reliability pros and cons to be identifiable across brands.Faster than a tent.......0 -

It is going in that direction... the all world is going in that direction... in ten years time there will be only Tesco and maybe another supermarket plus a few shops for those who can afford caviar and Champagne...
Competition means fewer and fewer players can stay afloat and the impression of choice is given by offering different labels for the same sxxt... the bike market is pretty advanced in that respectleft the forum March 20230 -

Supermarket Bike Shaped Object = The Flintstone's car (i.e. to make it go you put your feet on the ground and run)0 -
Can't believe nobody has mentioned:
Boardman - Ford
Both most commonly used, many people think they're bottom of the league -except their owners.0 -
I think this has been done before. I think Viner got Bugatti.0

I'm not sure I'd compare Canyon to Mercedes. Yes they are good looking, German and well built, but I always think primarily of Canyon as offering fantastic (unbeatable?) value for money, and I'm not sure I'd ever say that about a Mercedes. Maybe more of a VW?0

Viner aren't Bugatti. Viner is a relatively recent company that has managed to keep making a good proportion of its products in the country you expect them to come from. Bugatti, on the other hand, is a German re-imagining of an old French marque that they are building in Italy for some reason!Faster than a tent.......0 -
One small thing: Van Nicholas knock out titanium bikes.0

Pinarello = BMW (used to be exclusive but gone mass market)0

Specialized has got to be Audi - common as muck and more brand than capability, but still not bad to drive
Ribble : TVR definitely - great cars, after care service not perfect.
colnago - maserati
pinarello - Ferrari
Raleigh - rover
merida/Carera - Skoda
Mercedes? anyone know of any bikes with really bad paint and anti corrosion resistance?
Trek - BMW yesterdays cool
Giant - VW
Planet X - Caterham
boardman - volvo - the product is better than the brand0 -
Kuota - Lancia. You know its Italian but why does it have to look so F@ck ugly?
De Rosa - Pagani - What Italian design SHOULD look like0 -

I'm not letting this go! Aside from Paganis looking a bit vulgar, here are Lancias (sorry, not posting the current ones too many of which are dodgy Chryslers so not even a hint of Italian breeding!)
Lancia aren't like Kuota - too much history for that. Kuota are actually more like Pagani (rather showy looking products from companies that have been around for five minutes) and Look or Time more like Lancia (ie a company whose products are (or at least were) focussed more on genuine engineering than overblown superficial styling!)Faster than a tent.......0 -

Delighted to see Bianchi compared to Alfa given I'm a keen petrol head as well as an aspiring road cyclist. Never had an Alfa, but just adopted a Bianchi!2011 Bianchi Via Nirone 7 - Campag Veloce and Zonda wheels
2014 Storck Scentron G2 - SRAM Force 22 and Mavic Ksyrium SLS wheels0 -
