Hi there,
I am new to the forum and looking for advice.
I have booked to complete the Coast to Coast on June 29 th . Basically 150miles of Riding, 4500 metres of ascent yada yada from east coasy of lakes to whitby. I need some advice really, I have not rode since last year, end of summer. I was doing roughly 70milers. The year before I done LEJOG and obviously trained for that. That is the extent of my riding to be honest. I keep myself fit and go the gym etc.
I am looking because of Logistical reasons and others to complete this in 10hours or less. I can start cycle training at the start of March. Can you offer any advice on training, thing is because of kids I would like effective training with minimal time, I like high intensity ride if that the way to go.
Any advice welcome. Should I be doing a lot of hill work?

No advice but i'm in as well. If you are after 10 hours, can I sit in behind....
Would have thought some long rides (100m) plus as well as some hills will help.
I'm in for Etape du dales mid may so will be training up for that, c2c is just another 40 miles
In all fairness I have been training from March last year when I started last years etape du dales training, and have kept going so i should be in a better place this year.
Good luck and give me a wave as you pass0 -
Thanks for your reply. Sounds like wishfull thinking on my my part and you will be waiving to me as u pass. I feel now like a am being too ambitious and underestimating the challenege ahead. Is this a tough challenge, is there a lot of hills, unable to tell on the map.
The dales looks tough, good luck with that one. Wouldnt get two green lights of the mrs so i will have to hold out june.
Thanks.0 -
I am expecting a tough challenge, and yes, there will be hills and lots of them.
4500m of ascent is almost the same as climbing and descending half way up Everest in altitude terms.
You will hot Hardknott and Wrynose in the Lakes after 10 mies of so, but these are two hard climbs and will get to around 1:3 gradient.
The rest of the route will not be flat. Cycling plus did a review in either Sept / Oct.
Hope for a tailwind....0 -

Keep a lookout for when any of the cycling mags (esp Cycling Plus) put training plans in upcoming issues, they'll be publishing their sportive training plans soon. They generally put one together for those who are limited for time (isn't that most of us with a job!).
I probably have a past copy somewhere if needed.0
