just bought mine so no real time spent to test them, but I have just tried to flex an RT82 and compared it to an R064 really not any difference thought this was a fair test as they are both Shimano and relatively inexpensive.

The actual RT82 sole is as hard and unflexing as the road shoe but with a rubber surround to inset the cleats, so I think the underlying structure is the pretty much the same on both types of shoe.

Many thanks for that! Good to know.
  • Thanks for the advice people, I've been thinking of buying one of these 2
    shimano spd pedals pd-a520
    Or
    Shimano PD-M530 SPD Trail Pedals

As they look more like a traditional pedal and closer to an sl-spd type pedal, is the reason that they're more suitable to longer distance road riding as there's heel support?

Nothing wrong with these and it saves having to pay for more for cleats.

Spd's are not specifically for MTB riding. They are good for all aspects of riding and more sensible for walking in.
A heel on a cycling shoe is for comfort when walking and does not aid long distance rides.
