I Started cycling around 6 months ago now. Since then i have a time over 6 hilly miles of around 22minutes by myself and an average speed of 17-18 mph over 45miles in a group, Ive been getting into cycling more and was looking to know some tips of Increasing my average speed , training plans or anything, Thanks

Average speed means absolutely nothing. It's effected by traffic, weather, time of day, everything. The worst part is you become obsessed with going from 18.2 to 18.3mph. You end up taking chances to gain a few seconds. Once you get over the average speed thing you soon realise training is much more, it's about eating, resting, riding smartly, interval training, learning maintenance, etc.

    Average speed means absolutely nothing.
I've been training and racing for nearly three years, had a win and a few top ten places, yet the average speed of my training rides has not increased since I first started training. If anything, it's reduced.
