edited February 2013 in Road buying advice
Spoke to a board member who's listed as Ugo Santalucia, on this board after getting my bike in august about getting wheels that were lighter and better performing, I didn't have much of a budget but he offered a few ideas up as did a few others.

4 months on, I decided to bite the bullet. having saved up a few quid extra, Ugo advised me on a few key components and what i'd need to do. the parts list went like this:

Dura ace hubs (28 spoke front and rear) ( i chose the new 9000 Hubs)
Dt Competition/DT revolution spokes for the 2 wheels, I forget which went where!
H Plus Son Archetype Rims

Got the bits i bought to Ugo on monday and this afternoon I rode home on these new wheels.

compared to the old wheels the new ones are far lighter, offer better stiffness, and damp out the road noise better, they roll very nicely and offer better feedback and more grip (though that will be down to the gp4000s tyres).

I'm very happy with my new purchase! i'll post pics tomorrow if the conditions are worthy of the bike coming out....

When you've finally put them on your frame, mind taking a picture of them then? They're beautiful! I may have to contact Ugo for further info! Definitely interested in some of these beauties!

The components I bought were the hubs. As of this week you can get them cheaper than I paid, but that's because the online retailers are having sales. You'd have to contact ugo to work out your prices folks as some may want different pricing, based on different spoke counts (24/28/32) or even different rims. I listened to the man and played along as, rightly said, he is an expert. Check out his blog, and you'll see what I mean. I'm cleaning the bike tomorrow, so will take a few pics.
  • Bluddy nice wheels! Congratulations to the OP and good job, Ugo.

  • Nice wheels, Phil. I have DA/OpenPro. Those DA hubs are beautiful and a real long term investment as Ugo says.

I'm getting some GP4000S too - are those 23c or 25c, I'm guessing 25? I'm undecided but edging to 25c as my summer bike has the clearance.

23 on the gp4000s tyres. Due to the width of the rim, they have a better footprint than the outgoing ultra sports I had. The rim is I believe 23mm so the dynamic changes somewhat, and you get a better ride because of it... More contact patch and less rolling resistance, because of the tyre compound as well.

A very knowledgeable wheel builder and very personable chap to boot. PM him with your wheel related queries/wants and take it from there.

Very easy and good to deal with and delivers on what he promises.
