    Spec time...

    8371972767_3120bdd651_c.jpg

Titus El Guapo- medium, raw finish obviously with RockShox Monarch RT3
    Hope Pro 2/EX729
    RockShox Domain RC
    Reverb 125mm drop
SLX Chainest, XT Cassette, XT Chain, SLX Shifter, Saint Mech
    Superstar plasma chainguide
    Avid Elixir R 185mm F&R
    Superstar Zenith Stem 65mm
    Gusset Slade 760mm bar
    Superstar grips
    Superstar Nano pedals
    SDG Bel Air Saddle

Tyre wise I've got on-one Smorsgabords on at the moment, not used them much yet but wanted a lightish all-rounder for whislt I'm down at uni, idea is that this bike will do it all for me down here. They were cheap when I went up to on-one, about £27 for the pair, dual compound front and single rear. Still got a whole host of DH tyres to put on it as and when they're needed/wanted.

Also the Bel Air may make way for a Charge Spoon, I'm not massively impressed with how it's holding up, which is strange as the one on the XC bike has been great.

Edit. Heli-tape is winging it's way to me at the moment, should be here tomorrow so I can tape it in the evening, then planning on taking it out to the local wood and spending Wednesday afternoon there just messing around as I'm hoping my hockey match will kind of be snowed off.

    Now with added mud.

Took it out for a spin today, 15 miles or so round some local woods. Completely overbiked but loads of fun, as a bike to do it all it's great, no harder to climb on than the 456 was but much nicer on the downs. Pedals nicely enough, mostly down to the shock I'd imagine, got a couple of things to tweak but it's seriously a great bike. Tyres coped really well too given how crappy and sloppy it was out.

Could use a bit of a clean now but the mud has all frozen on so I've cleared the worst of it away from the fork and linkages and the rest I'll do tomorrow afternoon, quite cold out at the moment, In the space of 3 minutes or so on a climb water was freezing around the fork stanchions

I was going to tell you to mount your shock the other way but you have already done it. Sick bike! Bring it up to mine some time and we can have a man jewelry day :D

Been in contact with on-one today regarding the BB height, it would appear mine is 3mm below what it should be. I've decided I'm not bothered.

Some it appears have been up to 2cm+ lower than spec and of the last batch of 170 odd bikes in only 4 were up to scratch!?! Not great for customer confidence but you get what you pay for  Guess I'm lucky and as I'm happy with my bike I really don't care. It's a great ride, so I intend to ride it

Oh and hears another pic, because why not... now with the muckynutz and a bit of inner tube round the stay beacuse it was freeeee.

    8536495064_c4aff0ffc4_c.jpg

Fancy a new saddle, maybe a spoon? Aside from that I'm happy with it, wouldn't mind some lyriks up front to maybe drop a little weight but can't afford it and rather like the feel of the domains so I'm definitely in no hurry.
  • Said it before and I'll say it again, you've built a bloody good bike on bloody cracking budget.
And if the BB don't bother you, just ride it.
Regarding the tyres - I was thinking of getting a set of smorgasboards whilst the price is good (to keep for when i fancy a change) but wanted to ask why you went for the two different compounds front & back? And would you recommend them?

Ta very much, got to say liking the new Session. Back for 5 weeks from the 23rd March, got to spend the first 2 on placement and as of yet have no idea about hours  Leaves me with 3 weeks when I'll definitely be around to ride.

Looks ace with the Domains. Tyres still coping well mate?

I think I may give one of the Superstar Peak saddles a go... They look nice.

Lovely looking bike you got there, probably about to invest in one too however I'm having trouble finding out what the drop out on the back is, is it 135 or 142?

Cheers, I went for the softer compound up front for more grip, and the harder one out back because it'll hopefully wear better. So far I'm very happy with them, especially for the price

It's a 135 back end. Don't think they've got much stock at the moment though due to manufacturing problems, seem to remember reading somewhere the next batch will be in May...

Ahh thats good news, was hoping for them to be 135. Hopefully the newer frames wont have the BB issue which affected the v3, also time to save a bit of the student loan! Cheers AB

So I crashed in a freak ice related accident ending in a metal fence about 3 weeks ago so have been off the bike since as I did this to myself (and broke a few bike parts...

    8634874420_f946a1e81d.jpg

Broken bike parts includes managing to snap the button from my reverb remote, look, it's most definitely missing (replacement parts on their way).
    8634880272_a8289f9f3f_z.jpg

Anyway, while waiting for it to arrive I've heli taped the bike properly now I know where the cables are going to rub, fitted a hope 34t chainring and an XT 11-34 cassette

    8634877782_c7196d520b_z.jpg

    Still looking good though

Still does a bit  but at the time it wasn't as bad as you'd think, I was suprised, It's amazing the effects of adrenaline.

When I crashed I realised I'd gouged my shin and bitten through the lip, chipped the tooth etc. and that my shoulder was wonky. Then I managed to ride a mile or so into uni, went and cleaned my mouth out, cleaned my shin, had a play with my shoulder to see if it was all working before I even noticed my side. I thought i'd just grazed it initially and none of my clothes were torn there :? Then I had a closer look and got a suprise  After that I was too busy laughing and finding the situation absolutely hilarious to notice the pain.

The real pain started about 4-5 hours later when I was back on planet earth trying to move... now that was fucking agony.

Hope you heal up quick and can enjoy to fairly nice weather we're having! The cut looks quite nasty, Get it sent in to the mags and see if they publish it :P

In the mean time I could ride your bike to keep everything working? Haha.

Nice looking bike- really like raw finished frames. But trim down those cables!!
  • angry_bird
    angry_bird Posts: 3,787
    Cheers

I'll trim them down eventually, but for now they'll stay, at least until I know exactly how long I want/need them as the frames future isn't looking great, found a few more issues with it earlier, waiting on on-one to get back to me about them...

Could be that I say fuck it and find a new frame, maybe a NP mega...

Now you've had the bike set up for a while, What do you reckon to the tyres?

    Seriously interested in them.

If I'm honest I can't recommend them, I've not been able to ride it enough. Not had the time with the amount of work at uni  As a result it's only been out 8 or 9 times in local muddy stuff, where they're alright, better than my old highroller on the rear, but prefer to have a minion up front I think. Not had chance to ride them in the dry.

Anyway, there's a new issue with the bike, have been wondering about the head angle for a while now, doesn't look right, dropped the forks out and took a proper look at the slackset and it looks like it's not installed correctly... annoying as I paid for on-one to fit it when I bought the frame

Waiting to see what they say and how much the BB drops when it's installed correctly, if it goes much further down I think it's going to be something that plays on my mind when I'm riding, which I don't want. In which case the frame is going back and I'm going to either try and get a replacement when the new batch arrives or a refund as it's a fault they were aware about in the batch at the time of sale, and it's something they've accepted as being their fault.

Thankfully at the moment I'm too busy with revision to ride it much anyway, just using the roadie to get out in the evenings when I get chance, but want it resloved by the end of the month, once exams are over there's literally no reason why I shouldn't ride it every day, and I've got a couple of events plus a coaching day planned.

Issues are sorted with on-one, headset is in correctly, and I'm getting a new frame when the next batch arrives from wherever it is they're made, I'm guessing somewhere in the far east.

Think I'm going to swap out the headset too for a slackset with an external bottom cup if I can, think works do one for tapered forks that I can get a reducer for so it'll fit 1-1/8 forks.

Aside from that I'm also going to be pimping it out with one of these... in black or gold, yet to decide, because why not?

Shame you need a new frame but fair play to OnOne for sorting it. Your tyres are on my shopping list too. At under £13 for that compound, I don't think it can be beaten.

And gold cap of course!! :D

Well I went for a black cap (it's not going to be a permanent feature on this bike, it'll be going on the singlespeedy 456 in the long term.

Anyway, bike is in good working order finally, properly, been out for a ride on it and it's sweet. Need to readjust the saddle, change the angle slightly back and lower it a tad. Measured the head angle in at about 66.3 degrees which is nice. Tyres performed admirably in the dry today too, going to take it to Cannock at some point over the next couple of days and see how they do there as well, but after today they've grown on me a bit more.

Still not got round to sorting the hose routing permanently, waiting on some new barbs and olives for the brakes, then I can get them done. Reverb length will be staying as it is, because the reverb in it at the moment isn't actually mine. It's only a temporary while I wait for a replacement lever assy so I can fix my one, (the hose is cut to length already now), better not break this one too

I've made up my mind now. Gonna get a black (or orange) EG w/ Monarch. Whack on the 180mm Domain and the Flows and a dual-ring Saint crankset and this will be my AM ride

It will be a beast!...but the long term plan will be to swap the Domain for a 170mm Lyrik (or a 160mm Pike) and swap out the Flows for a set of Arch EX

You say the next batch of frames will be in end-May?..sounds perfect.

and yes...it sure is shiny! 8)

So I managed to get some free RS Lyrik RCs 170mm from on-one to prop the BB up a bit more, truth is, I've stopped noticing it or having problems. Going to see how they go, not sure whether I'll stick with the slackset with them, or maybe even get them spaced down

Still, significant weight saving over the domains so I'm happy, and initially feels alright. It'll get a proper test next week when I'm done with uni.

Update... for a while I thought I'd been noticing some play up front, now I'm certain of it and I'm fairly sure it's the slackset, not at all suprising given on-one installed it incorrectly in the first place and certainly not the first I've heard about causing problems when installed incorrectly. Decided I can't be arsed with it anymore, so it's going. Will be ordering the appropriate hope cups for it as soon as the next student loan arrives. Shame but oh well, not been too keen on it anyway what with the 170mm forks too, will hopefully ride slightly nicer with the steeper head angle.
  • Shame about the slackset, I installed mine myself in the end because the lbs fecked it up... hang on to it if you still want it in there and I'll knock it in for you if youre ever around!

Cheers for the offer. For now though the hope cups have been ordered, sod waiting for the loan. Turns out after just paying my rent I had about £60 left over so would have been rude not to
