Turbo Trainer

Hi, I'm wanting to start turbo training. I have a young boy and another one on the way in a relatively small terrace house so the idea is something very quiet which means I can train close by during the week to help out with the kids :o so looking for something quiet. My wife got me the Cycleops Wind for xmas as she'd researched that it had a really good action/ feel. Unfortunately its way too noisey so we are returning it for something else. My budget is £120 - £150 so a fluid trainer is out of reach. A quiet mag is the main objective but I would like something that is solid, has good action/ performance and where I can add resistance when required. I have been considering the following:
- Tacx bluemotion
- Minoura B60R; OR
- Cycleops Mag +

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks JJ

You can afford a fluid trainer on that budget - I got an Elite SuperCrono Power Fluid from £151.99 from Halfords of all places only last week.

    http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stor ... yId_229901

It adds a 20% discount when you add it into the basket.

It is nice and quiet - nearly all the noise comes from the bike, the turbo itself just gives a slight whirr, it can barely be heard over me hyperventilating lol.

I would certainly recommend it anyway - started using it with trainer road today, great fun (if you like sweating/pain),

No issues with resistance, just use the gears, it is the 'power' model which has 100% the resistance of the normal one (or something) so you will be sweating buckets on the small ring lol

Jotko, have you experience with other turbos?
I see tacx satori mag gets good reviews, then fluid cycleops fluid 2.

Can't seem to find much review on the elite one via halfords though

Not really, played with one in LBS, I think that was a Tacx but not sure what model (it was blue)

Anyway, there is a BR review of the one I have here:

I have a Tacx Satori and for the money it has been great (£129 from Decathlon including floor mat (~£60), wheel support and dvd). It has very powerful resistance, although I really only use it a level 5 so I can work out power easily. Its power curve (linear) is very predicable making it suitable for trainer road or you can just calculate it yourself from speed. It is not super quiet though so may not be as quiet as you need.

I was going to go up to a Cycleops fluid from my Satori, but thought about it... and there was no reason to.
    The Satori is as above...

although on Trainer Road using the new Satori powertap profile instead of the standard profile, it has made every turbo session very 'very realistic' .
  • thanks guys! very helpful

As per reviews the elite supercrono mentions its quite hard work getting going, but tempting as a fluid one at circa £150 new
