Never looked at this before, but will add my weekend effort in. More 'pacy cruise as part of a longer ride' than 'all-out sprint', but doubt there's much more in reserve in any event.

Still reckon you should give that 42kg rucksack a whirl, okgo... ;)
What do you mean you think 64cm is a big frame?

I value my knees and spine :D

I still think you should get a powermeter, then we would know if you lost a ton of weight whether you'd be quicker/similar/slower :D

You're both a similar height right? You could let him have a go on yours, what's the worst that could happen?!

    6 ft 1?

I hope he is taller than me if he's 120kg!!!

And the meter doesn't worry me, after all I've put some serious watts through it, but its the rest of the bike that would struggle at that weight I think.

Grin. 6'4". All being well should see how I improve over the coming months. JOGLE in June (and lighter before it) so... maybe 15-20kg gone between now and the end of that.
What do you mean you think 64cm is a big frame?
  • Here is a selection of the excuses already given:
"It was a ride of 6 steady laps"
If I hadn't given that info, anyone who knows my times and power for previous years would have looked at it and thought WTF?! So it seems simpler to just give the info up front. The whole thing is just a bit of fun, but it can be a great starting place for people to compare what they can do against others. It has perhaps been made a little less relevant by the strava boom, in that people can now go out and ride all sorts of routes and compare their performance against others, but the bikeradar RP 3 lap challenge did it first :)

Well I hesitate to even post on this thread, given how rubbish I am in comparison with everyone else, but what the heck...

I wasn't held up by traffic to any significant extent, I didn't have to swerve round any deer, and my only excuse is that I'm not very fast. Still, I'm on the board - let's see if anyone has the balls to post a slower time before the end of the year :)

Time is based on Strava Sheen Gate lap segment. Was slightly faster based on the Roehampton Gate Anti segment, or a little slower based on RP Queen's Gate segment. Never know which if any of them is most accurate. Any way, it seemed fast out there tonight. East wind helped.

None of the segments will get it right, you should always manually start timing when you pass a point (which can be just pressing the lap button), and stop it when you pass the same point 3 laps later. No Strava, no adding together individual lap times, just time from a point to the same point 3 laps later. If you press the lap button once a lap at the same point, you then have to select the entire 3 laps on the computer later, or you'll underestimate your time as you'll be throwing out the fractions of a second from each lap, e.g. if two laps are 20:00.8 and 20:00.9 then adding together 20:00 and 20:00 to get 40:00 is 1.7 seconds faster than the true time. I'm probably the only person who bothers getting the time right to this extent :D

I do it too, but bear in mind I have to upload some of Ed F's rides to strava he can't even manage that, so you can't expect the same standards of everyone.

    Laps of 22:06, 21:42 & 21:58

Obligatory excuses are being help up on every lap between Richmond and Kingston gate but not enough to move me up the ladder. Cold at 4C and NE wind helped up to Sawyers but was a disadvantage on the other 2 sides.

A good marker for when it warms up and fitness improves.

Thought I might get a good run this evening with an easterly and being able to go in later with the clocks having gone forward, but got blocked up Sawyers on the first lap, which is a bit of a disaster with a tailwind up there as it stops you from taking advantage of it. 2nd lap was about as good as it gets, so it was clearly too cold to be super-quick, and then the 3rd lap was just a sick joke in terms of traffic, hardly got a clear run anywhere in the whole lap:
    15:48.95 AP 288 NP 303
    15:27.55 AP 295 NP 309
    16:44.53 AP 242 NP 284
Hopefully there will be another day with an easterly later in the year when it's warmer and a later sunset to hopefully have less traffic.

Edit: I actually got a clear run from Roehampton to Richmond after the end of my 3 laps, which meant I did it faster than that bit on my first lap, so I've amended my time to 47:43, which is what it was starting and finishing at Richmond gate instead of Roehampton gate. Makes the laps:
    15:36 AP 292 NP 305
    15:49 AP 285 NP 303
    16:18 AP 260 NP 302
(timings worked out using Sport Tracks)

Joining in for a bit of fun, know a few on here. Yo EyePea, Ben, Martin W, Christian C
    - First time I did the challenge. Slow compared to summer lap times, perhaps due to air temp/traffic.
    - Strong Easterly, 4-5C
    - Went at about 5pm, still plenty of traffic; it gives you a rest but too long at 30kph must affect time.
    - Same power and weight as TarmacExpert, but 8.30 slower. Note whilst I don't have a slammed stem I'm not riding around like a sailing boat.
    - See you again in the summer, will try again with that no wind no traffic no (i) deer on TT bike.

Some great times posted here, 1:15:00 is considered "club pace".

Maybe... I went out with the club in my 1:10 set up there, and I was getting dropped on the downhills and flats by the slow group - did okay on the uphills though against them.

Much better tonight for traffic, but was very cold and windy. Went for a max effort lap on the first lap and did my fastest ever single lap, then basically kept going as best I could for two more laps!

Impressive. What time where you there? I've not long got home myself, but only just cracked 1:05 in this wind.
  • Started the 3 laps from Roehampton gate around 18:45. I'd say it was definitely more windy than is optimal, on one lap I averaged 45.5kph from Roehampton gate to Kingston gate, and there's a net elevation gain between those two points!

    Chapeau TarmacExpert - impressive stuff!

I'm back into the park from next week and hope for some better weather since most of my runs out there in March were in pretty grim conditions. Now the evenings are lighter, I should be able to get back into a routine of riding there in the evenings to really help with things as we approach summer and the harder stuff.

But once again, well done on that impressive ride!

Yeah that's pretty pacey! White TT with a disc wheel and rear light? If so you flew past me between Robin Hood and Roehampton.
What do you mean you think 64cm is a big frame?

Amazing! From where I'm sitting at about 1:18 for that, 46 minutes seems rocket propelled.
