He was seriously good that season (2009). Still, he's 28 so no reason why a few good results this season won't see him back with the big boys.

Be interesting to see whether Lovkvist can also resurrect his career - or whether he just reached his potential and that was it

Agree. Think things would have been quite different for him if he had won Milan San Remo in 2009.

Yeah, seems to have eaten away at him, that one

What's the mystery? He stopped 'skiing' in St.Moritz as part of his preparation. That's all there is to it.

Agreed. To lose it on the line was particularly cruel, but that's racing. Cav sprinted like a mofo and deserved the win. Haussler had a real issue with him after that and seemed to cry and b*tch about Cav at every opportunity.

I really don't understand why he dropped a level though. He came 2nd in 4 stages of the ToC last year, he's hardly crap?

Maybe Garmin didn't want him anymore. I think they have been quite patient with him. I think I would have dropped him before now.

Garmin defo didnt want him any more (mind you, JV has endless patience with Tyler...). Can only assume little interest from other PT teams...?

Pro teams aren't normally fussed on renewing with guys who rack up loads of 2nd places in sprints.

His wages would've been substantial too, so you could probably hire two or three up and coming talents for the price of a busted flush.

Is he a busted flush? I know that last couple of years weren't great -- but he's just 28.

He couldn't catch a ride with any protour team? Was he that pricey?

Re: Garmin -- is HH any worse than Tommy D, Tyler, and CVV?

    I always liked him.

Tommy D- Top 10 in the 2011 Tour
CVV- Eye catching break/team role in the Giro win, road captain.
    Farrar- You've got me there.

I think he's possibly not quite sure which way he should go - is he a sprinter or a classics rider with a good sprint? He is on the edge of both but not really top tier in either.

Good point. I think he'd be better concentrating on being a classics/breakaway specialist, he's certainly not a top tier sprinter.

I think confidence is a problem for him, and he's very good at blaming everybody else for his problems.

Well, he certainly stays upright on the bike more than crashtastic Tyler.

As for whether he's any worse than Tommy D or CVV, besides any results they've had, he doesnt share the pasts that mean they'll be at Garmin until the end of their careers, right?

    I hear you.

But JV waited on Tommy D for a long time; CVV became a different rider with Garmin.

In the classics, does HH gets squeezed by the presence of Maaskant and Van Summeren?

Why haven't they dropped Donkey Tyler then? He's a ******* crap sprinter. He never wins a sprint ever, except in some pathetic chipper. I'm ignoring the stage of the TdF he won and dedicated to Wouter obviously.

Yeah, I agree with Pross. Fast enough to top 10 against elite sprinter, fast enough to podium against those sprinters who can climb a bit, strong enough to make selections in the classics, but not strong or fast enough to win them.

With a bit of luck he'll find himself in races without the likes of Sagan, Matthews, EBH etc so he can win some of those more selective sprint stages. Maybe get some confidence back.
  • I'm ignoring the stage of the TdF he won and dedicated to Wouter obviously.

And the 2 stages in the Giro and 3 in the Vuelta. Oh and he's won two stages at the Tour.

See above, I have no idea.

Haussler. Good talent. I think from interviews I've read in the past he really struggles with discipline.

Needs his stars and head aligned to really get where he needs to be.

Bugger me he was exciting in 2009.

Across a career that's nothing to get excited about is it? Or am I being particularly harsh because I don't like him? I still think he's crap.
