Most recent pic Sept 2013...
Ive had my 2012 CAAD 8 Tiagra for a few months now and still love it, been doing little bits to it. Got a new set of Shimano RS20s, 105 cassette and some green Rubino Pros for xmas. Ive changed the now manky white bar tape for some green Deda tape and at the same time changed the boring black cable covers for green and white jagwire ones. Ive changed the crankset for an FSA gossamer pro and the front mech for a 105. Ive got a set of green Halo allen key skewers through the wheels and some green brake pads which were a massive improvement over the standard ones but i cant remember the brand. I got a garmin 500 for my birthday from my other half and i've bought an acor carbon bar extender to put it out front. Ive also put a charge spoon on it which agrees with my arse more than the standard one!
The wheels and tyres have made a massive improvement to the bike, more than i could have hoped for. I did my usual benchmark 17.4 mile loop today and took 4 minutes off my previous best in quite a bit of wind. The ride quality has improved massively too.

Im going to eventually change the brakes and rear mech for 105 in black and the shifters for 105 when a set comes up at a decent price
Hope you like...........

I always disliked this newer paint scheme, but I love this!! looks great!0

Nice! You should go for Ultegra calipers instead of 105 just for the added power (brakes are one thing I like spending money on)
How do you find the Rubinos? I've heard many people find them deadly for the first 200 miles or so...

Nice bike, what's that bar your garmins mounted on?0

Do ultegra brakes perform much better than 105? I thought they were just lighter. But i bow to your knowledge and agree you can never have too much braking power
I read up on the rubinos before i got them and gave them a good scrub with warm water and soap and they have been fine in the few miles I've done on them....miles better than the rubinos they replaced0 -

I've heard from a few people that Ultegra calipers perform better than 105, in addition to being lighter. I've got a Shimano R650 long-drop caliper on the front of my bike (long-drop version of Ultegra), and it can lift up the rear wheel with ease when braking.

Ah cool well I'll look out for a set, must admit im leaning toward the ultegra rear much as I've read it has bearing jockey wheels as opposed to bushings
Thank you guys for the comments on my bike so far. I love the colour scheme, to my eye its more interesting than the endless red and black bikes that seem to be the norm....can't hurt to be extra visible either i guess0 -
Likin this a lot! I'm 'green' with envy...
Apologies...0 -

Hi mate its one of these
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/TWBIKESHOP-20 ... 25706b3713
I took some 1200 grit wet and dry to it to get rid of the red graphics and get down to the raw carbon. Nice bit of kit. Thought about cutting off the excess part but it makes a good mount to add a front light on.
Cheers

Bad....night shift? That might explain the dreadful humour0 -
Hello mate.
I've got the CAAD8 too! It's a quality bike isn't it!? Totally agree with you on the wheel upgrade - the Maddux rims that came with were poor, the rear wheel buckled after 3 months. I went for the Askiums on mine and the performance massively improved (not that it was bad in the first place). Have the 105 upgrades made much difference?
I still have all the factory stuff on mine and love, and still love the look of it and didn't think it could be improved. However, yours has completely changed my view - it looks fantastic, good work fella! I love the little touches like the green and white cabling. You've given me food for thought!0 -
Any body remember Pacer mints :-)Yellow is the new Black.0

Thanks mate....yeh great bike i love riding it very smooth and agile. The maddux rims are dreadful aren't they? I was looking at aksiums too but found the shimanos for a good price. They've massively changed the feel of the bike, very similar to aksiums so i guess yours feels the same. Changing the cabling was very cheap, maybe 15 quid all in. The cranked was a bargain off the forums and does not flex. I found i was flexing the original chainset a bit when going up hills. Can't say the 105 has made a huge difference. Maybe slightly better changes but the tiara stuff is very good anyway.0 -

Like you, I found a good price on the Askiums, so I thought why not! Funny you say that about the cranks, been having a bit of jip with mine. Always thought it was my gear selection - going up hills too high, but maybe not. I read someone that Cannondale recalled aload of cranks with a certain code sometime last year, mine weren't of that particular code though.
Anyways, lovely bike mate!0 -

Ultegra brakes are no better than 105. Honestly I swapped mine and I'm convinced they (ultegras) look like they flex more. That said, once you're on the move yuo won't notice any difference, and they are lighter too. I just like the colour.0 -
like it0

Lookin good, you need a nice lime green fizik saddle to go with them bars.
Ive took a diff route (the boring route) and started to black mine. Changed bars and saddle to black and have also been looking at the black gossamer chainset. Like you iam also on the look out for cheap black 105 brakes, derailleurs and eventually shifters. I removed the white rims and added fulcrum 7s. The plan is to add white walled tyres in summer.
Sorry for bad pic and dirty bike lol.0 -
Nice one mate, i nearly got the fulcrums myself. Bet it rides loads better with them. The gossamer chainset is a nice upgrade, i picked mine up brand new for fifty quid from a nice chap on here.
Whats the thing on top of your stem? What frame size is yours, looks similar to mine (56)
Cheers
Graham0 -
Thing on stem is a computer, mines is a 58 frame. How hard/easy was it changing the chainset?0
-
Ah cool...very easy to change. Just take off the chain, remove the non drive crankarm. Then pull the chainset out (i had to give mine a little tap with a bit of wood) then simply fit the new one in the reverse order. Took about ten minutes. I got about £25 for my old crankset on ebay btw.....0
-
Sounds easy enough, you have made my mind up on next upgrade.0
-
Haha good one....have you decided what type you want to get?0
-
A few new bits added, upgraded groupset to Black Shimano 105.......very nice too and love the uncluttered bars over the Tiagra stuff. Ive fitted the rear mech with ceramic bearing jockey wheels as well and got teflon coated brake and gear cables. All in all much better braking and shifting.
And a new saddle, a Fizik Antares.....only done 20 miles on it so far (snow and work ) so too early to tell but better than the Chrage saddle i had on it before
Mudguards
I dont think there is much more for me to do. I may change the stem and seatpost at some stage but i think thats about it for now
Cheers
Graham0 -
Oh dear, you really have got a bad case of Upgradeitus.
Bike looks good though, liking the teflon cables, pretty neat.0 -
Haha i know, so much for just ride it.......hasnt cost me too much though, I reckon about £450 for everything on top of the bike which was £700 brand new but ive sold a lot of the bits off it for about £250 so it only owes me about 1K, lovely bike.....if only the engine was in better nick but im working on it!0
-
looking good, im pretty much just behind you in the upgade department lol. Got myself FSA gossamer and black 105 brakes. Once i can get rid of these tiagra shifters i can purchase my 105s. I see you took my advice on a previous post about the lime green fizik0
-
Haha Buckie, yes i seem to have inadvertently followed your suggestion. Saddle looks ace just need to ride it more to see if it fits my arse.
Sold my whole tiagra groupset for £150. Got my 105 shifters for 85, front and rear mech for 35 then new cables for a tenner and managed to get a brand new set of brakes for 40 so only cost me about twenty quid to upgrade to 105 spec....very pleased0 -
well got my 105 shifters, brakes and rear mech installed today all excited about my 1st ride tonight and guess what its blowing a blizzard grrrrrrr. On a brighter note front mech should be here tommorow lets hope the snow doesnt stay on tonight0
-
Ha! you can't trust the weather for anything at the moment! I really like the hood shape of the 105 shifters a lot more than the tiagra0
