I've looked but can't find a thread to congratulate Dave Brailsford. What an amazing job this man does. I think after New Years honours list it should be Sir Dave Brailsford.

Amen to that. From reading Miller's book he thoroughly deserves it for being a genuinely decent person as well as his work with Sky and GB.0

You're right nick1972, I made this suggestion / prediction months ago when people were calling for Bradley to be Knighted [rightly so]. He is the mastermind behind the British domination of cycling at the moment in a range of discplines.
Of course members on this forum don't need telling but the general public have only recently realized the fantastic work that guy has put in, and of course that work has been extremely succesfully.
Again rightly so Alf Ramsey was Knighted as was Clive Woodward but I do feel British Cyclings successes a few years ago weren't as expected as the Football and Rugby triumphs.
Arise Sir Dave!!!
oh and of course Sir Bradley, like to be a fly on the wall to hear what he says to the Queen!!0 -
Or we could just wait until after he's retired from his career and achieved, hopefully, a whole lot more. The neccessity for instant gratification for recognition in the New Years Honours is symptomatic of much that is wrong with everything today!Faster than a tent.......0

the best bit out of the last night show for him is he mentioned "british wheels were more round than the french" again it's so brilliant!Road - Cannondale CAAD 8 - 7.8kg
Road - Chinese Carbon Diablo - 6.4kg0 -

He may well regret that!
Best administrator in UK sport though.0 -

Instant recognition? Dave Brailsford has been doing it for years, master planning the Beijing and London Olympics and of course the TDF.
I think what he has achieved to date deserves that recognition surely.0 -

I think when he first mentioned the round wheels to the French he was quite incredulous that they wrote it down ........... and that they didn't immediately pick up that the extra round wheels were in fact made in France!0 -

In sport I would be a bit weary before distributing honorific titles... in a couple of years it might turn up the secret is a new drug that is not tested for... so I would wait before getting over excited

I'll go one further, and suggest he's one of the most successful sporting coaches/leaders/administrators the UK has ever had. What he has masterminded is nothing short of amazing.
Suggestions please for who has done more than him in any sport over such a period.Cycling prints

You have to be realistic... go back in history and find a dominance that was not fuelled by drugs of some sort.
German and then Chinese female swimmers, North American sprinters, pretty much all winners of the Tour de France, various football teams... the list is endless.
I hope Team Sky and Team GB are clean, but I wouldn't bet my pension pot on itleft the forum March 20230 -

But would he have got his chance if it hadn't have been for Peter Keen and Chris Boardman?0 -

Sure, no problem with that. Just think that Peter Keen tends to be forgotten a bit.0 -
I had the honour of meeting him a few weeks ago. Very smart guy.
Same goes for Kerrison (though he does remind me of an aussie Dexter).0 -

Come on mate, the next thing you'll be telling us is Father Xmas doesn't exist !!!!
I hear what you are saying but all of a sudden it feels as though he's got to justify he's achieved it all with a clean way of running things.0 -

Realistic!!!!
No one person or team bangs on about how they can win clean like Brailsford and team Sky. Also they have no secret about how they do it. Marginal gains, total professionalism, nothing left to chance. Top coaches and nutritionists.
No other team that has been so successful has shouted about being clean. No other team attracts so much scrutiny.
Armstrong/Discoveries mantra was "Never tested positive". Not the same thing.
I, for one, am totally convinced they are a team, and management, with the highest ethics.
As I have said more than once, the Brits hate to see there own being successful, and the more successful they are the more flack they get.
There is no reason to doubt them, so why try to fabricate suspicion?0 -

I'm with you. We don't know for sure and we won't know for sure for some time but if you look at most of the high-profile dopers (LA, I'm thinking of you) there were rumours aplenty long before they got found out.
I shall not believe that cycling is genuinely determined to kiss goodbye to doping until Pat McQuaid is given his marching orders and there is new broom at the UCI but I do believe Team Sky, Dave Brailsford, Cav, Wiggo et al are serious about winning clean. I believe what they say and I shall continue to do so unless there is some credible evidence to the contrary.0 -

Err, I think you'll find Ugo isn't British...0 -
If you have a look at some of the other cycling forums that non-UK pros and ex pros tend to post on perhaps you will get a more rounded perspective on the issue of whether Sky is clean or not. Of course some of them may have anti-Sky agendas so you need some healthy skepticism when reading it.
For what its worth, I am quite persuaded by the marginal gains argument but equally some startling performance improvement stats are very hard to explain. I certainly wouldn't be saying that I am convinced they are a team and management with the highest ethics unless I had access to them day in day out
On balance, I wouldn't give him an honour. If nothing comes out in the wash re Sky in a few years then fine, but not yet0 -

I am not saying team Sky is doped... I am saying something completely different and you should read before shouting... I am saying that before giving out a knighthood, wait and let the matter settle. Time will tell if the man is worth a knighthood. Too many honorific titles are given in a rush (Fred the Shred for instance) and they shouldn't. There is nothing more embarrassing for the State than having to withdraw such an award, it makes it worthless.
More specifically, you have a short memory if you have any: every successful team in the past in any discipline claimed it was down to hard work, preparation, little details and all that gibberish,,, which is partly true... many of those achievements were also down to Cecchini, Ferrari and Conconi... more recently Fuentes and not only in cycling. Cycling is very exposed, while scandals in football have always been coveredleft the forum March 20230 -
I'm amazed that some people thing we should wait and see what happens, 1, 2, 5 or 10 years down the line.
Maybe the winner of the Giro, TDF, Vuelta, Paris Roubaix, Olympic Road Race, TT, Velodrome winners shouldn't get to go on the podium as winners til 10 years down the line!!
Many people seem to think it's a probability that what all cyclists achieve is through cheating.
This is about Dave Brailsford who is an organizer of systems, people, methods, technology to get the best out of the Cyclists he oversees. He's done a bloody good job of that, now all of a sudden some people seem to be sowing the seeds of doubt about how all this success has been achieved. Why should we question it all as there is no grounds to doubt all this success. All that he has been envilved in has been pretty transparent, look at the Documentarys on TV about Sky etc.
What do people suggest that he is honoured when he is dead. This has been a fantastic year for British Sport, people who have achieved should be honoured for it!!0 -

I have a documentary about team CSC in 2004, featuring Basso among others... It all seems like hard work and organisation... It is an awesome film, you should see it, it is called "overcoming"left the forum March 20230 -

I don't think anyone is saying that. But have a look at this, can you really not see why people "might" be a bit cynical about cycling.

Oh and I don't care if they want to give Brailsford anything in the new year's honours list or not. Means very little to me. In fact, I don't think they should be giving them to sportsmen (or women) or their coaches, but that is maybe another thread.0 -

And when your done with Overcoming, you could give this DVD a go as well.

Ok Guys fair comments, but I do think that cycling teams are more under the spotlight
and watched more closely than ever before.
Also we're talking about Dave Brailsford. Maybe he took banned substances to help his strategies of Team Sky and the Olympic Teams etc.0
