Are you sure that you're wearing the right clothes but the wrong size? It's all about fit. I used to do my clothes shopping in Tesco and get clothes that were two sizes too big and were always black or dark blue. My girlfriend showed me how to dress properly with sizes and colours and now I wear all sorts of sh1t I wouldn't of done before. Once you know the basics then you can start experimenting with stuff. When you pick things out for yourself you feel relaxed in wearing it.

    For smart:
    Suit
No tie unless in an interview.
Shirt with the collar over the suit jacket.
    Black shoes.

    For smartish:
    timearstrchubk.jpg Timberland low cut boots.
Dark blue jeans (not skinny) or chinos
Fitted shirt. I'm not a bloater so I may as well show off my athletic physique.
Thin cotton/merino wool jumper (if chilly)
Black leather M65 field jacket when a coat is necessary. I used to wear the original Vietnam era one, but I've moved up to leather.
58098.JPG Kangol 504 wool flat cap. Worn the correct way around. I'm not American
This is what I wear most often.

    For casual:
Various trainers (I'm currently loving my blue Nikes)
    Jeans as above
    Hoody or tracksuit top

I'm so fly, I have to carry around a sh!tty stick to beat the ladies off with.

Who picked your clothes out for you before you met your girlfriend? Was it your mum and did she tell you that you'd grow into it? Only joking, (a little).

Oh dear. Find your own style (not necessarily what your girlfriend wants you to wear). I would advise against red trousers though as they make you look like a forum moderator and who wants to look like that?

Pretty much all of us wear lycra longs in cold weather. The only difference is that those are worn without being astride a bike. It is a small but very important difference though. Meggings are just wrong.

That website looks like a guide for people with no sense of their own style and who spend way too much time in the front of a mirror. They should rename it www.howtodresslikeatwat.com/category/me ... appearance

    Tis funny.
I got a tweed jacket 1 1/2 years ago and had to put up with the "Farmer Giles" comments but I don't care as I am old enough to wear it and old enough not to care.
Now I would appear to be getting trendy. It's a funny old world.
None of the above should be taken seriously, and certainly not personally.
  • I thought the whole point of reaching middle age was that you stopped caring what other people think. You should certainly have learned not to take yourself too seriously.

Of course, those of us comfortable in tights/longs should have no trouble (at least mentally) slipping into a pair of "meggings" and staying on-trend...

Wear what the f*ck you want. I'm no stranger to a bit of tweed or the occasional flat cap and I'm only 32.

@DDD how can you not know what a sports jacket is?

    Also - Slacks = American.

@GTV if you want smart casual trousers that aren't overly expensive and come in many colours, then have a look at Dockers. For well tailored British menswear you can't go far wrong with Oliver Spencer.

I'm with DDD. Is a sports jacket a tracksuit top?
Still no answer to what a baker boy hat is.

I've had a look (thanks cyclingprop) and it is a no-no for me.

I'm thinking that the OP may be taking fashion tips from Alan Partridge.
I know its the wrong hat, but:
