I am designer...

As I approach the big 40, rather rapidly, I have been considering my fashion sense.

Normally, I am relaxed in terms of dress; jeans, shirt, boots/converse all stars....

However, I want to be more stylish, wear a baker boy hat, sports jacket and trousers; but I would feel like a prize nobend walking down the streets of Bristol.

I really envy people who can wear what they want and look great....Hats, slacks, sports jackets - gives an air of class, even if it is faux class.

**I saw a guy in Sainsburys just now in a purple moo moo and open toe sandals.

I have to ask. What is a moo moo?

If you use the word "slacks" then that officially makes you old.

(And I think a moo moo is a Hawiian dress for fat people).

You'll probably look less of a wally in what you describe than you do wearing a pair of Converse in your 40's.

    Jeez, let it go grandad!

    The truth hurts.*

*Your clothes should match your personality - Wild, quirky or mild. But you have to be able to carry it off.
Keith Richards is ancient and looks a bit of a knob but he can carry it off. Can you imagine him in a sports jacket and slacks?
None of the above should be taken seriously, and certainly not personally.

True. Addendum to my post above.
To look good you have to be comfortable and confident in what you are wearing. Whatever it is.

I always like the look of the Steve McQueen Gulf Oil jackets when I see them on sale. Every time I've seen somebody where one they've looked like a total knobber.

Next you'll be saying "rinsed".

Never mind me I'll get my sports jacket. LOL

Fair enough, hadn't noticed that. Doesn't even have the Gulf patch. But my point still stands. Other knobbers:

You are probably right, I cannot get away with it anymore and my mates would question, quite relentlessly, any hat usage

    We have a guy in this office, every day he is immaculately dressed, but really cool. He wears;

    Brown loafer shoes
    Slacks
    Usually a shirt/cardigan combo
Sometimes wears an ascot or scarf
    Tweed jacket
    baker boy hat

He looks f*cking cool and holds himself well.

I would feel like a f*cking tool in that lot and I would be at the mercy of my peer group.

You would be surprised how much you like things that you may not have ever seen your self wearing. I use to think the same thing but don't the plunge and you know what I haven't looked back :D

What is a baker boy hat?

    For smart:
    Suit
No tie unless in an interview.
Shirt with the collar over the suit jacket.
    Black shoes.

    For smartish:
    timearstrchubk.jpg Timberland low cut boots.
Dark blue jeans (not skinny) or chinos
Fitted shirt. I'm not a bloater so I may as well show off my athletic physique.
Thin cotton/merino wool jumper (if chilly)
Black leather M65 field jacket when a coat is necessary. I used to wear the original Vietnam era one, but I've moved up to leather.
58098.JPG Kangol 504 wool flat cap. Worn the correct way around. I'm not American
This is what I wear most often.

    For casual:
Various trainers (I'm currently loving my blue Nikes)
    Jeans as above
    Hoody or tracksuit top

I'm so fly, I have to carry around a shitty stick to beat the ladies off with.
