I had some business to take care of this morning so I couldnt go on the club run. After lunch I donned an under armour base layer, my thermal Bianchi long sleeve jersey, a pair of tights and a pair of BTwin Supportiv bib shorts with the top grade chamois pad. I set out on a hilly 45 mile run which I knew would warm my body right up whilst the weather was WTF COLD

I could see people looking at me with that "that guy must be nuts going out in this " expression and I didnt see a single other rider . Anybody else head out today and was it arctic cold ( like I was out in) or chucking it down like the weather on radio 5 said it was doing.

1.5C when I started, quickly warmed up though, and was nearly 7C when I got back, wasn't too bad.

  • This is too far into winter for me! The winter bike is now a turbo bike! For use till end of feb!
  • I went out at 7:30 this morning, needed lights but timed it well as managed 20 miles in the hour I was out and got back five minutes after it started raining. Kudos to anyone that went out though, at least you were riding.

Was constant heavy rain over here today. Wouldn't have gone out no matter what. Had a recovery day planned in advance anyway so no loss. It's nice when the weather forecast is correct.
  • It'll get worse before it gets better.

Must be milder here. Dry with plenty of riders out getting some miles in before dusk. Nice tailwind pushed me home too :D

Was going to go out on my road bike but the rear wheel had mysteriously deflated. I couldn't be bothered to fix it.

Went out for an hour or so on my old mtb instead. Came back drenched and muddy- glad of a nice hot shower afterwards.

Weather looks better tomorrow so going to fix my puncture early and go for a ride. :D
  • Yep, 4 of us went to Bolton by bowland, a great run out but seriously freezing. Coldest I've felt it this yr. was -1 when we set off and in places the puddles at the side of the road were slush

We were wrapped up though and managed 55 mile in the cold so not a bad morning. Glad we got out but it took me a couple of hours to warm back up properly.

  • Just a short ride earlier, just to get my legs spinning.

Really enjoyed it - quite invigorating!
  • I have had a cold for a week ....... driving me nuts. Looked at the weather forecast on my phone and all looked good (unfortunately I had it set it to NY, bizarrely for no reason). However Kent was rain and more rain .... and falling temperature. 90km endurance test .......... of weather.

Tomorrow is fine ..... so a proper cadence.
  • Yep 18 degrees and rode Sa Salobra. (sorry guys)

Commuted to work :D A little nippy but very pleasant. Passed 3 other cyclists that were wrapped up in all sorts and going about 10mph. I'm in leg warmers and shorts with a thermal top and a softshell on. Just right.

I'll ride as often as I can in the winter, but if we get ice, I'm not riding on it.

  • Didn't have much time today between my sons Footie match and leaving to watch Wigan v Reading, but managed a 12 mile, 19.4 mph burst on a small local route. It's was around 4C but I didn't feel cold once whilst I was out.

Spotted lots of fello riders at least 8, not much wind so a great day for it.

  • Glanced out of the window this morning to see frozen windscreens.

Therefore a bike ride simply wasn't going to happen. Way, way too risky!

It's been cold all day and started to rain late afternoon. Still raining now. At least it should prevent a heavy frost but roads will be very wet tomorrow morning............ we'll see.
  • wet is ok if you dont go out in wet its gonna be a long winter of no cycling. I went out this afternoon once the frost and sheet ice had melted, ended up a great ride with perfect weather apart from the numb toes lol.

Spotted a group of 4 out this morning in what is the most treachorous weather ive seen for cycling, maniacs!! if one of them has not come off its a miracle.

Nothing wrong with wet, or even Wet. It's WET! I object to. Currently got that here, and more than happy to give it a miss.

  • Yep, went out on a 30 mile trek to test my new Endura gloves. They failed, sort of. They were wind stopper style but when wet they got cold. Though at some point they got warm? Can someone explain that? Anyway, the reason I went out was because its exciting! Loads of rain here in Frome. Loads of BIG puddles and to top it off I got a puncture 1 mile away from home! I could NOT BE ARSED to change the tube so I slowly rode home. I was very protected though with the right kit and i loved it! I did make a point of riding to Bradford on Avon to buy a red eye from TT cycles for my exposure helmet light which made me feel a little more safer back to Frome. I never have a problem with the elements. It's more of a challenge you have that lovely hot bath with her indoors to look forward too.......

Went out yesterday at 3 degrees, saw -2.2 on the computer at one point. I did 38 miles, got back and my water bottle was frozen. Sitting looking at the rain just now thinking about going again.

Had a cracking run, did a nice 45 mile ride in still conditions, it was bl**dy freezing and visability was awful in places but it was a damn sight better than the wet of Wednesday.

Yeah, I got out yesterday and loved the suffering of a few lumpy miles :)

Weather was cold (but the roads were frost free), bit of a chill wind...and then the rain started! I must admit that I don't think I could have stayed out all day (not least the fact I was on Dad's taxi duties). The big fat cuppa in a steaming hot bath was a lovely end to the morning and made it all worth while.

I think the hard thing about cycling sometimes is getting the layers right (LS medium weight baselayer/LS winter one, thermal top/windproof top/rain proof top, winter gloves/autumn gloves, thick socks/thin socks and overshoes, oh the decisions). I fuss around more about what to wear than my missus on a night out...and that's saying something

I don't fancy it today, far too much localised flooding round here. One for the turbo later methinks.
  • Woke up to find the the car and road outside to be white with frost, but I ended going out anyway.

    BIG MISTAKE!

Travelled about 4 very steady miles and then hit my first major hill.... No chance! , back wheel just spinning on the spot and was drifting out of control onto the other side of road, so decided to use my head and turn for home. Will not be doing that again!
Left it for a couple of hours and went out on my old mtb with touring tyres on, was a lot better temp didn't move from 2 deg all day, but was a very enjoyable 26 mile ride in lovely weather, not like the weather outside my window as I'm typing. Will be taking the old faithful steel mtb out more often over the next few months.
