Sorry to hear you still haven't managed to get planning permission for the changes to your house, but it sounds like victory is not too far away. Very good to hear from you again.

    London Marathon?

Yep, I wonder if a target like that - or a half perhaps - is worth focusing on.

Good to see this thread back on page 1.

I'm sure the other day was a tough reminder, but from now on, all of your anniversaries will let you appreciate how far you have come.

Good to hear from you OB, thanks for the update. I can't begin to imagine how the past year has been for you but I do so admire you for the strength you have shown in dealing with everything that has happened. Good luck with the planning permission with Harrow, I bet next June can't come quick enough eh?. All the very best to you.

Good to hear the update OB. Glad to hear you're gettnig out and about, sorry to hear things are taking so long with planning. I'm amazed they don't try and push this through to help someone that is already going through enough other difficulties. Not surprised you had a wobble the other day, that's the first year gone and this one can only be better. Glad you're staying positive. Well done.
  • Thanks all for your kind thoughts.

Its been a difficult year and a massive learning curve but, so I've been told, I'm ahead of the curve in terms of where I am compared to many in my situation. I can't tell you how stressful its been trying to cope with being separated from my wife & family for a year and the seemingly unnecessary and petty intransigence of certain 'authorities' but I'm coping.

Next year's goals, in no specific order: get back home, 'walk' my daughter down the aisle :), try out a handbike and, if possible, get up to visit my friends in Yorkshire for the start of Le Tour.

Best wishes OB. My injuries only stop me from cycling - and that gets me down at times. Your positive attitude is why you are 'ahead of the curve'

Has anyone from C+ ever considered doing an article on this guy ? -

Ha - 'funny' story there. I cancelled my subscriptions to C+ and CA at the beginning of the year and unsubscribed from their emails. Then a couple of weeks back I had an unsolicited email from C+ (or rather 'myfavouritemagazines.co.uk') offering a special 'come back to C+' subscription rate. I was not best pleased and told them so, explaining why I'd cancelled; got a 'standard' letter back confirming they'd removed my email from their database :(

  • Woohoo :D:D:D great news - at the Harrow Planning Committee meeting last night the Members overturned the planning officers refusal recommendation and unanimously voted to approve my plans!

Such a weight off my mind! I was physically shaking with relief. And against official protocol I got to speak, they actually voted to overturn two procedural clauses to allow it. I wasn't expecting that so had to wing it for 3 minutes, but it was good. 8) And the planning officer came over as a Muppet who couldn't even get her facts right!

Now we can move on! The tenders came back over-budget, but I can work on that!

Still will be another 8 months before I go home tho :(

Fantastic news OB! Nice to see local democracy exhibiting some common sense. As for the tenders, we've found all our tenders coming in about 10-20% over what was predicted in the last couple of months - everyone seems to be cranking their prices up. Hope it's smoother ride from here.

Has anyone heard anything from OB? Looks like he's not been online for a few months.

Hopefully the house modification is well on its way so you can get home, and the other New Year goals are on track too.

I was thinking about him the other day as well that hadn't seen him online for quite some time, hopefully he's just busy and well.

I'm not sure if this is the same person but the name kind of leaped out at me. How many Irvings can there be?
