Recently bought a 10 speed Campag Centaur groupset from them as seemed a great price and was all in stock but once the order turned up i noticed they had added a band on front mech instead of a braze on along with a Campag 11 speed Chorus Chain and UltraTorque cups which as we know aint compatabile with the rest of the groupo .

Soi i returned all the wrong items at MY expense with a promise of them refunding the postage costs , have to admit they sent out the correct bits pretty sharpish but nearly a month later no refunded postage costs ,just a heads up .

They are cheap but notoriously unreliable...

My super record shifters got delivered the other day, the box had been opened and the cable set had been removed!! I rang them up and they were sent out next day but I was annoyed that I didn't get a sealed box...

  • Think some of there Campag kit is OEM sourced as well ....get the impression they cant cope with the volume of business they get without making cock ups ....really dont understand why the Retail Bike trade cant offer decent customer service .
  • Well just an update .

Despite repeated emails to refund my incurred postage which all went ignored i opened up a paypal case for the amount which forced them into issuing the refund .

I will deffo think twice about using them again .

Good read that , pretty similar to me with a catalogue of mistakes one after the other , either they are under staffed and cant cope with the volume of business or they just dont care and are incomptent !

I think the people on the customer service desk are genuine and care - but the warehouse staff and management are a complete bunch of arsewipes

Only ordered once from Shiny Bikes but they managed to mess it up good and proper.

Along with my experience and posts from others I wouldn't order from them again.

I must be the only person in the world to get good service from Shiny Bikes. I called to check they had the Campag bits I wanted, nice lady went and checked, said yes, posted out the next day, arrived the day after. Everything as requested, job's a good 'un. Maybe I was just very lucky.
  • I ordered some handlebars from Shinybikes. Waited and waited and they didn't show up, only to notice on my paypal statement a refund from them 10 days later. They didn't bother to email or call me. That sort of laziness has cost them any future trade from me. Don't mind paying slightly more for the exceptional service that is wiggle, and the peace of mind that if you have a problem you're not having to deal with lazy morons.

I am in the midst of a very poor customer experience with Shinybikes.

I ordered a Shimano groupset from them on Tuesday 7th and their website said it was in stock. They took payment on the same day (£1300). Because I had no indication from them of delivery date, I phoned on 7th and asked them when it would be delivered. They said as it was in stock, they could guarantee delivery by Friday 10th.

As a result, I booked my bike in with my LBS to fit the BB and Chainset at a reduced rate and at short notice on Monday 13th.

When I phoned Shinybikes on Friday afternoon, I was told that they were sorry, but they hadn't been able to get a front mech for the groupset, but that it had arrived that day and would be dispatched with their Parcel Force delivery (which goes at 5pm every day) and they guaranteed delivery for Monday. This meant a call to my LBS to postpone the fitting until Wednesday. They were not happy because they lost a slot in the workshop.

On Monday, the groupset hadn't arrived by 4.45pm, so I called them again to check the situation. This time, I was told that the front mech actually hadn't arrived with them the previous Friday, but that it was in their hand now. Unfortunately, they had missed their Parcel Force daily delivery slot (which now apparently goes at 4.30pm every day), so could only guarantee it for Wednesday. They promised to send me a Parcel Force reference number when it was dispatched.

I rebooked my LBS fitting for Friday.

Today I have been trying to get a Parcel Force number from them, but every time, they say they will call back in five minutes. They didn't ever phone back, so I have just phoned again and told them I'd hold while they got the reference number. When they gave it to me I entered it on the Parcel Force website and it said it wasn't a valid number. They are going to go away and track it down for me and call back. Given their record so far, I don't expect a call.

Should I expect to ever see the Groupset or my money back? They seem extremely dodgy to me and these fora seem to have as many stories of disaster as happy customers.

Gosh that's disgusting service. They reel you in with cheap onlilne prices, but can't deliver in one way or another, on my list of places to avoid.

This is poor but how many times will it take before you learn the lesson?*

    * i.e. wait for the groupset to arrive and then book the appointment.......

Well, when someone tells me they have the missing part 'in their hand' and it is being dispatched with a 'guaranteed' delivery date, I tend to believe them. This is probably because in the main, I've dealt with companies that actually know what they are doing, I suppose. Too much to ask of Shiny Bikes.

Oh I agree with you on principle but I think after they'd let me down twice I'd have stopped inflicting their incompetence onto my LBS as well!......

I'd stick with it though - I think you'll get it all. Eventually!

Just to update on the situation...

The delivery finally arrived this morning (Thursday). Inside the terribly packed box (a £1,300 groupset packed loosely amongst torn up newspaper...), was a chainset, a chain, BB and a cassette. Also a scribbled note saying that the front brake, rear brake, front mech, rear derailleur, levers and cables were 'to follow'.

I have phoned them to ask what on earth is going on and got the usual 'I'll go and investigate and call you back'. Well, so far they have never actually managed to call me back, so we'll see what happens.

I then made a closer inspection of what they had delivered, I noticed they'd sent an 11-28 cassette. I ordered 12-28.

    Unbelievable.

Please never order from this place. It's not worth the hassle and stress. When I hear back from them, I shall probably have to phone my bank and cancel the credit card payment (taken a week and a half ago). That will probably prove tricky given they have part delivered the order.

Send it back, buy DA9000 if your freehub allows £1450

I genuinely think this shop needs to hire a consultant to sort out their warehouse issues. I do feel sorry for the girls on customer services I think they get embarrassed about the all the screw ups in the warehouse

I have had my own experience with Shiny Bikes.

I won't be using them again, either.

Merlin are far better in my opinion. I have ordered bits at 4pm that have been delivered the following day. Ribble a bit slower on delivery but still reliable

    I agree.
Ribble used to be my first port of call, now it's Merlin - they deliver fast and their prices are usually better than Ribble.
I have found Ribble's prices a bit high this year
