Nice. Thing is, as you go above a 54 the frame shape looks awful, whereas on a 54 they look great!

Yep, it's a 54. Not sure on the stem length though. Seems extremely long considering the bike belonged to Matteo Trentin, and and apparently he's my height.

Have you worked out how to get it home yet?!

Remind me to avoid riding in North Cornwall next time I'm down - looks rapid!

    It's home!! :D

Brought it back on the train last night in a bike bag, and stood with it all the way from Paddington to Exeter in the buffet car!! :)

The bike might be rapid - but I'm not!! ;)

Good man - I have an image of the two of you leaning against the bar, each with a McEwans in hand, dreaming of cols to be conquered (well, the hill out of Coverack at least).

The bag did the job then? I could do with something similar to cart mine down to Cornwall in.

Lovely bike btw...did I mention that already?!

Ha ha - Tribute and a copy of Pro Cycling.

The bag was OK. The image on the Chain Reaction website shows a bike in there with the rear wheel still on. Mine is a 54 frame, so not big by any means, and I couldn't get mine in with the wheel on, so it was a bit of a pain having to cart the two wheels around separately, but at least it comes with wheel bags, so it wasn't too bad.

Maybe with a little more fettling I could have squeezed it in, but I don't think anything with a longer headtube would fit that way.

Just took it out for a quick spin around the block. Seat height has come down by about 2" as I have short legs, and the stem is probably about 20mm too long, so will have to find a shorter stem.

Got a small climb out of our town that I can manage no problem on my Ribble with a compact, but with standard double on you can certainly feel the difference in the legs.

As they say "it doesn't get easier, you only get quicker!!" :D

Has to be draught Tribute though. Just not as good in bottles.

Must admit that I felt the difference when testing a double on a TCR Advanced against the compact on a Defy. I'm definitely all about comfort over speed...

    Yeah, ex team bikes.

Guy I know has contacts a Quickstep, so can get his hands on a couple each year.

Bit of a lottery as you just say you want one earlier in the year, give them your measurements, and you take what hey bring.

Thought I was getting a Roubaix, but ended up with a Tarmac.

Their normal Zipps have been replaced with brand new FFWD's which are quie weighty but quite tough.

Only other real compromise is that the cassette has been changed and it's a Force/Rival cassette (1070) and not a Red one. Other than that it's basically the team bike.

It was wasn't it. Supposedly Matteo Trentin is the same height as me but no way could I use that setup.

Saddle has come down by at least 4cm and 110mm stem ordered.

It's actually not a compromisethe the red cassete loud as shit. I'd take force cassette any day over a red(or actually why not take the red and sell it and buy a force and get some cool overshoes :D:D:D )

  • You may well see another SL4 Sworks around Bude at Christmas, I'm coming over to visit family, and there are some KOM's around the area that look quite tempting!

Absolutely! But I may have to put my 28-11 cassette on. It's about 15% isn't it?!

That and Crackington hill, we're staying in Jacobstow.

But cold air means high air density means -1 to -2km/h at 30km/h compared to a hot day..........!

I got up half of a 15% hill with a standard chainset and 11-23 cassette with a very heavy steel bike once ;) It was rather hard though.
