Did a lap around Richmond Park. First time outside on a road bike since 12 March 2020.

Did you see lots of slow people, then realise that you were actually slower? I've had that experience a few times.

My mate bought a vice which rotates in 2 directions and if you flip it over, it has a fractal vice. I was a bit miffed, 'cos I just bought a new one and feeling rather smug as it only cost £60 and his cost just £80.

I've definitely moved from slightly faster than average to slightly slower than average.

When there's a chunky piece of work to do and when you get to it you realised you'd already done it a week ago.

I think I'd be more worried about the fact I'd forgotten...

I got confused this morning when someone with the same name as me put up a FB post about Exeter, and I wondered how I could have forgotten about it, until I relaised it wasn't me.

And then that reminded me of a rather more famous namesake... I rarely use Twitter, apart from making public complaints or trying to get a quick answer from a company, but this exchange amused me, and still does.

Making it to Laon in France today. Tomorrow will be the second leg, to get to my house, but making it past the frontier police with the aid of a letter from my mairie was sweet. Summer's arrived.

BTW, Laon is well worth a visit. The cathedral is nuts.

    Back OT.

There's a sharp right hand bend near me at the beginning of a downhill stretch and the camber is with you but... there is a road on your left just at the Apex which has always been gravel.
This means taking it easy around the corner because there is always lots of gravel spread across the road.

...and recently, it's been tarmacked so the gravel is slowly disappearing and I can now launch myself off the top with a little less caution.

Just a note to all you cyclists.

Picture the scene - driving along on a summer day with sunglasses on and you go under a canopy of trees. It's dark, your eyes have not adjusted, you failed to anticipate this and move your sunnies up or off and there in front of you is some cyclist in this years black, in dark shadow...

Today (before the above mentioned hill), I went through a tunnel of trees and it was remarkably dark in there.

So, no matter what time of year, I always have a flashing LED on the rear of my bike.

    Stay safe.

^^^ Yup! I experienced similar while driving a couple of years ago and saw a couple of "invisible" cyclists at the last minute but thankfully on the other side of the road. I now always have a flashing rear light.
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.

I have flashing lights front and back. Don't want some tw@t pulling out in front of me.

The French plod checked health declaration, vaccine certificate (though not the AZ batch number), manifest, and PCR test certificate, and all were uploaded to Eurotunnel in advance. She wanted to know where I was going, and my reason, so it was helpful to give her the letter from my mairie, even though I don't think you now need a reason to travel. But French border police are a bit of a law unto themselves, so that was my insurance policy.
