I tell you what is really nice; go to your local swimming pool when it's quiet and just float. Might not be that easy - I needed a small polystyrene float in the small of my back to compensate for the extra weight. Try it, the 'weightlessness' even for a short period is fantastic. Takes the pressure off everything.seanoconn - gruagach craic!0 -

When in Portugal last year there were some very palatable wines at €1.29.
Plan to take full advantage again in June. 8)0 -

Was in Albufeira and an ex pat gave me pointers on which wines to buy.
He said that the wineries up north bottle any unsold wine for the supermarkets to get rid, that's why it was so cheap.
Could have been and probably was total bollox, but he never steered me to a bad un. Besides, at that price, I could afford to put it on my chips.0 -
When we're in Italy the common rule of thumb for dinner is bottle #1 - decent. Bottle #2 - average. Bottle #3 - anything goes.Advocate of disc brakes.0

Meh...wine is wine is wine. Hugely overpriced in Britain hence the discounts. Most wine sold at £10 ish + a bottle and then given 50% off is worth a bit less than that.
Go to France and buy it by the bladder. Much better.
Beer, now that's a different matter..Ecrasez l’infame0 -
I suppose if you are a Laffe/Duvel/Hoegarden drinking connoisseur, wine is a bit of a muchness. TBH, I prefer wine as I get older. 70% of wine in the UK is priced okay and tastes... okay.
When I was in the Naam, (Cheltenham), there were a couple of good Vintner, one in Stroud (Centurion Vintners).
You could go in and say "I want an easy drinking red for less than £15 please" and he would point you in the direction of a few. They were always good.
On one occasion and thanks to a certain female, I was given a bottle of Nuits St Georges. it was stunning. Ever since then, I have been quite prepared to fork out more than a tenner without hesitation for a bottle. By the same token, we don't drink very often because of the kids and work patterns, so a bottle once every couple of months or so which costs as much or more is hardly breaking the bank when 3 pints will cost you more than that and people won't blink at spending £20-£30 on drink of an evening.seanoconn - gruagach craic!0 -

The warm feeling of familiarity, seeing the younger members of our team looking like reheated shoot this morning after over doing it at a leaving do last night. Particularly as they fill in the blanks in each other's memories. Quite sweet.

Toric contact lenses (for astigmatism).
Despite having worn contact lenses for years, I never knew you could get them that correct for astigmatism. I got some this week, and they're stunning. BTW I also found out that you can get varifocal contact lenses (and combination ones that correct both).
My eyesight is better than it's been in years, and better than with my glasses.0 -
