i have never or rarely seen the following makes on my brief travels, why is that? why do most people seem to buy, giant, trek, c'dale, boardman or specialized almost exclusively (apart fromt the obvious that they are good bikes).

kuota, scott, felt, time, look, orbea, lapierre, wilier, ridley, storck, cinelli, merckx, BH

i have seen the occasional bianchi, colnago, cervelo, pinarello, canyon, bmc, focus, cube.

Salience innit. Although I regularly see all of those apart from Storck.

Brands you rarely see tend to be the real boutique ones like IF, Firefly, Feather, Legend, Passoni etc.

Most of the brands you've mentioned are represented on my club run, and Scott is the most popular brand there perhaps because our LBS is a stockist.

Every now and again someone turns up with something properly exotic - usually the guy who works for one of the cycling mags and seems to have access to an unlimited variety of bikes.
  • I live in a fairly well off apartment building with secure bike storage, in there we have 2 c'dale tt bikes, a few Orbeas, a Felt and 1 Storck tucked away way in the back. Love walking around in there!

I see lots of Giant, trek, canondale, Boardman, Spesh, cube, bianchi, cervelo - but also a lot of Revolution's (Edinburgh Co-Op own brand). They are not always true roadies, but I do see lots of them. I live in Edinburgh mind, so that has something to do with it

Not sure I've ever seen a Cinelli roadie out and about. Would love a Strato, probably going to buy a black 2013 Saetta.

yeah you do - they have Ribble written on the down tube

believe it or not, you can get cinelli from Halfords - a colleague of mine has a bootleg mystic on the bike to work, but you pay full RRP on them because they aren't standard stock. in Halfords branches they have a catalogue of everything they supply and it's quite surprising what they do have

If you'd been out in the Lincolnshire Wolds today you would have.
Going very slowly up the hills and not too slowly on the flat.

Only ever seen one other in the flesh, although I know someone else on here also has an Opera SL like mine

    Mind. Blown.
  • Part of the attraction of being a bikie is to ride something a little different from everyone else. There's absolutely nothing wrong with riding a Specialised/Trek/Cannondale or other 'mainstream' brands; I recently hired a Specialised Allez while on holiday in San Francisco and it was an excellent bike. However, one likes to be 'individual' and that's cool too, as long as the bike in question is functional and fit for use. I have never seen another Cube Litening on the road, although there are more Cubes out there now; I've owned mine for more than 3 years now. I also ride a Stevens Vapor Cross, which is a super machine, but have never seen another Stevens. The bike I own that attracts most attention is the original Trek District, the Grey and Orange with Belt-Drive - only ever seen one other of those on the road, and that IS a mainstream brand. The bike I'd really like to own is a Cherubim; hand-made Japanese steel frame jobbie - that WOULD be a rarity. Anyone got one?

We must be strange out here in the flat lands as I have seen loads of 'unusual' brands. In our club there are plenty of Orbeas( I have two of them), Colnagos, Pinnerellos, Fondriests a Parlee, some Looks. have caught and overtaken a rider on a Storck several times(nice bike)

See loads of Pinarello and Boardman round here, but at some point have seen most if not all of the brands touted in this thread but I do spend several hours at the wheel (I drive a bus) per day including the main meeting point for cyclists in Nottingham/surrounding areas namely the Lowdham War Memorial.

Who else has seen a Langdale?

The de rosa frame and forks look the same from the outside but are lighter than the ribble as the carbon is different. Thats what i was told anyway and going off the price difference it makes sense
