Seemingly trivial things that annoy you

People saying "cube" when they mean "cuboid". For example:
If you don't like that, did you know a "segment" of an orange is actually a sector?
Thanks, there's something else for me to be annoyed by in the future.0 -

Lay one on its side and ask yourself what shape it is. If we're being truly precise, sectors and segments are parts of a circle, and oranges are, to a high degree of mathematical precision, orange-shaped.Specialized Roubaix Elite 2015

Isn't it the case that sector and segment apply to circles? How does this relate to spheres (or orangoids)?
The older I get, the better I was.0 -

Hmm, interesting that neither of those apply to oranges, chocolate or otherwise.
Spherical wedge it is then.

My grandfather in Italy was an engineer, proper one that is. Had the title Ing before his name in the same way doctors would have Dr over here. Engineers seem to be valued more highly over there.0 -

Ditto for so-called "architects".
Architect, unlike Engineer, is a protected title and can only be used if you have the relevant qualifications. Which is odd as (proper) Engineers are obviously far superior and therefore the title should be more deserving of protection0 -

My new job title is going to be "Senior Engineer"... so far I've managed to stick to "Consultant", I studied geology and have an MSc... my dad is an engineer (mechanical) and I feel like a fraud calling myself one.
Technically I could put AMIChemE after my name these days, but I don't like to.0 -

Regarding the term being protected, please explain this to LinkedIn. They currently believe that I may be interested in applying for a position as a systems-architect, cloud-architect or solutions-architect.
Regarding engineers being 'far superior', I reckon you're right if you mean you get paid more for doing less. If only you could explain this to my younger self.

the word manager in the job titles of people who clearly can't manage.
:-)
I'm with Al Murray on this. We're all managers. Managing means doing just about enough to get away with it. I managed to get up and make breakfast without burning the house down. Managed to ride to work without punching Allez man in the back of the head (close run thing though..) etcCS7

Ironically, computer geeks who call themselves Engineers or Arcitects probably earn a damn sight more in this modern age than those trying to protect their "trade names"0 -

People who incorrectly use ironic or ironically.
i·ron·ic
happening in the opposite way to what is expected, and typically causing wry amusement because of this
In this case, people who go to get an official qualification to call themselves an Enginner or Arcitect being upset that people call themselves such to make their jobs sound more important. But in MOST cases in the IT world these people who are scorned are most likely earning the sort of money the Engineer (B.Eng) or Arcitect (BA) could only dream of.
How many Engineers or Arcitects you know of are multi-billionaire CEO's? I know this is taking it to the extremes but still it doesnt make your job qualifications more important0 -
I literally hate it when people uncorrectly use ironic, even ironically (bloddy hipsters). Everyone and they're uncle know grammar pedants are fewer interesting.CS7
