Seemingly trivial things that annoy you

Update.rick_chasey said:*sigh* I guess so. Amazingly rude. He got shirty with me over email (just before I got rona) when i emailed what I was hoping for and then said I was going to bring my own cassette for him to fit.
Anyway, there's a place further down the road that sells BSOs and 2nd hand pub bikes and they said "sounds good - saturday afternoon?" and it's with them now.
They seem to know what they're talking about so should be fine. A bike is a bike, whether it's a carbon road bike or a pub bike.
Cheapo shop was excellent. They have no kit appropriate for a decent road bike but if you bring it along, they'll stick it all on.
Even worked out I didn't need new cables after all and charged me £25 less than I'd agreed with them.2 -
Having a zwift calculated FTP of 3.19 w/kg (with an accurate weight) and being excluded from the "under 3.2 w/kg" category.0

Isn't it normally done the other way around on Zwift?Pross said:

It is nice it's heading in the right direction. Maybe I'll have a takeaway and weigh again - but I think they might have made it a bit smarter.Pross said:

The use of words like "witchu", "meetchu" etc.
It's "with you" and "meet you".The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.

It's a plausible theory that Latin verb conjugations (e.g. amo, amas, amat etc.) started out as two separate words, but because of human's verbal laziness the stem (am-) and the conjugating bit at the end fused together in writing after they'd fused in speech. So even posh Romans were up to it.
Mind you, not even posh Latin survived, and vulgar Latin usurped that 'model language'. People, eh?0 -
When I wait to turn right at the bottom of my road and people turning right into the road find they can't cut the corner so glare at me as though I'm in the wrong. Some even still try to cut the corner, I've had a few near misses where I'm convinced they're going to make contact.0

It's a bit scary when that happens on a bike, and the old codger driving only realises after you've chucked your bike out to the left and you're leaning against his door, with your bright red jacket against his window.
Fortunately the old codger was also driving at old codger speed.0 -

Go to a cafe, order a nice toasted sandwich and coffee. No cutlery required, but they bring the sandwich (on a plate) sitting on the only paper serviette you get already. This means the serviette is often a bit stuck to the melted butter or cheese of the sandwich, and is already not usable.
Get up, walk to counter and collect another one. Wastes money for the cafe because I now use two instead of one, and annoys the customer (me).

Language isn't trivial - it truly is one of the wonders of the universe. But you're right, personal tastes in it are.0 -
And I've just realised that my apostrophe ("human's") was misplaced. Trivial, but still annoying.0

It's all we've got.
My Latin thing was kinda 😉 on-point: I have a linguist friend who holds Latin up as the absolute epitome of a 'perfect' language, so of course I wind him up by pointing out the ascendency of Vulgar Latin.
Humans have thoughts to express, and the genius of human language is that we are always finding new ways to express them. And somehow we get understood, even when we dream up new stuff.0 -

A large number of indie's have closed down near to me over the last 5 years. It has been a long and painful process working out which of those remaining are worth using.
The main problem post covid is the demand, there are 3-4 really good bike shops within a 25 mile radius and the demand, particularly for workshop services, is massive. One of them now only operates by appointment, even just to pop in and browse!
I have a strong suspicion that most of them do the work for the loudmouth idiots first, just to avoid any hassle. If you are fairly amenable you get shoved to the back of the queue, which surely should be the other way around?0 -

And quicker. When I had only one bike, doing stuff yourself is the best way to stay riding.pblakeney said:

Ditto. I find I can always fit myself in. Bike repair and maintenance obviously takes priority over any other household chores, DIY etc0

All the kids on the close I lived on as a kid built bikes. We rode what we called scramblers all over the local fields. A scrambler being pretty much a pre mtb. Road frame with cow horn handlebars. So I’ve always done my own maintenance.
It’s a constant learning curve though. I have found myself looking at some new types of parts and going eh?
Some of the developments are really quite clever but definitely need YouTube assistance the first time you encounter them.0 -
Was reading the other day that English is relatively unusual in having a single word for 'Why' rather than a compound of 'What for'.briantrumpet said:pblakeney said:The use of words like "witchu", "meetchu" etc.
