Chapeau! - that made me chuckle

People who use the word 'chapeau' (other than when talking about hats in France) 😉

No pass for the pro cycling watching fans? What about when they say "hat"?

Dog owners again. On my socials there is a dog owner hoping someone will find their dog which was lost during a walk in the woods. The dog is deaf and blind. Why, oh why was it left off the leash?

This is one I think I've mentioned before, but as it's reaching new heights of stupidity, it's worth another shot...
Completely pointless outside broadcasts on TV news. The BBC is what I usually watch, but others could be just as bad. The other day when the King announced he was poorly, they had to be LIVE outside Buck House at 6pm, in the dark. Not next to the gates mind, but across the road on the other said of the 'roundabout'. Now, it's not as if anyone was going to come out of the palace with the latest proclamation about the blokes prostate, is it? So why? They are supposed to be struggling for money and yet can always afford to do stuff like this.
To add insult to injury, they then had to cut LIVE to the outside of the hospital where Kate recently had treatment, just in case anyone happened to give a flying poo what the damned place looks like in the dark, when it's raining.
It was the same last night with the controversy about the photograph. They were outside Windsor at 6pm to see nothing happening and there again for the 10pm news when nothing was still happening.
Sadly, when there was something to see, like the Severn Bore this morning, they managed to be too late to see it!
The older I get, the better I was.0 -
What's worse is when they have two teams. One local team, and then for some unknown reason they also send out a national team. I guess local newscaster's accents are just unacceptable.

My favourites are when they do this for severe weather. There's a snow storm that we're all warned to not make unnecessary journeys in but there will be the reporter and crew in case people have no idea what snow looks like.

Why oh why oh why do bike shops always always always set your rim brakes so tight they rub when you get out of the saddle.

I'm quite amused by the concept of my rim brakes being set by a bike shop.

I needed the spring in the calliper replacing as well as new cables.
Oh and a new rear hub, cassette and chain

Last week my "good bike" was still stripped down. Every last screw was removed and inspected. Every bearing has been checked and replaced if required. I have literally saved thousands in servicing costs over the years.

I don't go that far, but one of the joys of modern bikes (for a non-mechanic) is that most of the bits are just plug & play. I got burnt early on by an unscrupulous bike shop, and so quickly learnt how to do things (which helped make me realise how unscrupulous they were).
Compare that with my first proper bike (a Falcon Black Diamond, c.1976), and the need for spanners (rather than allen keys), bearings that you serviced by dismantling them (I didn't, but Dad tried), and goodness knows what compatability, the ease of just typing in a Shimano part number and putting it on makes most of it a doddle these days, even for someone whose job is pressing just three buttons.

I do it, because the alternative is more time consuming. I don't enjoy it at all which means my bike is in a permanent state something needing tweaking.
1 -
Ditto, though it is quite nice each time you tweak something, even if there's something else still to tweak...

Ah, see; the advice I got to start my career as a time served mechanical fitter is paying dividends even now.
No tweaking required after a build and fettle. The fettle being a twist of a thumb screw adjuster.

I too are time served mechanical fitter and as quick as I could I went trained to do something else. I can’t even be arsed to clean my bikes never mind maintain them.😂

But you’re a boomer being paid by Rick so you don’t have to work and therefore have time to do this.

I have 2 delivery companies informing that they will deliver an order on 18/03/24 but that the company I ordered from are saying that the said item will not be back in stock till 28/03/24.

True now (with the exception of anyone paying me) but I've been doing this for decades. It's as easy as things get. Techy Lego is more tricky.

I did say "start my career". Guess it's to do with my upbringing where nothing was wasted.

Ditto. Who needs a garage to service a bike?

I used to do bike maintenance on a postage stamp apartment balcony of my studio flat as a student. If it was cold or raining I'd put an old sheet down and do it in my kitchenlivingroombedroom.

Yes it was miserable being a student. All that time on my hands. And the sheet used to get dirty. I got the whole deposit back on the flat though.

My bike would be cattled if it was only serviced on an annual basis.

Isn't it an ongoing task? It isn't as though everything wears at the same rate is it?
