  • I don't own one and have never dealt with these guys before but saw one in flesh t'other day and it made me drool.

Owned by former pro I think: pretoriusbikes.com/Pretorius_Bikes/Home.html

    ETA: there's a good review here with more pics: http://road.cc/content/review/61953-pre ... frame-fork

Yes, meant to have Pretorius on the list. Ticks the boxes and London based.

If you do get one, make sure you put up plenty of pics :D

Problem is, after looking at the welds on that Legend frame, everything else looks shoddy by comparison!

And so it begins. May I be the first to congratulate you on the new purchase.
Don't worry, the 2nd kid can have new clothes.

    That Legend does look lovely.

yeah unless you put 105/veloce on it and then wheels to match that kind of build.

I think the ideal winter build is:
Ti frame, and carbon fork both with mudguard mounts
Ultegra Di2/Athena EPS (no cables to get clogged up with dirt)
    Alu finishing kit
most expensive brakes you can afford in either shimano/campag, so either DA/Record as stopping power is important in the wet/grime
Mavic Open pro rims (32h) with hope pro hubs

    Pedals, tape, saddle to suit.

So i guess that is a £3k build...

Can't afford Di2 so I use Gore sealed cables instead.
    Wheels - check
    Frame / fork - check
Alu finishing kit? Ti seat post, Ti stem, Chris King Ti headset, Hope ceramic BB.

    Suits me sir.

They've been ground down for cosmetic effect. The flip side is that more material had to be added in the first place. Take a look at the welds of a Moots, or Eriksen, and that's about as good as it gets.

I noted the words "paint" and "titanium" in the same sentence earlier in the thread.

Try an off the peg Ti from someone like Sabbath, Van Nicholas or Lynskey. You'll get a lot of frame for not much more than £1k. All three do frames with rack mounts and so on. Obviously you lose man points by not having a black streak of road dirt up your ar$e, but its something to think about for a winter bike.

Magic carpets are made of titanium. Nuff said.

i like my 3t stuff so carbon for best, alu for winter.

Will consider a chris king headset and a hope bb when this stuff dies.

But i have a CAAD9 for winter, one of my all time favourite frames but when this dies in about 3 or 4 years time it WILL be replace by a Ti bike with guard mounts

Another vote for Enigma. I had them build be a bespoke bicycle and it is lovely. Jim and Mark are great to deal with, too.

Do they come with sandals or do you have to buy those separately?

    Steel

There's a cracking shop in Southampton (Rock n Road Cycles) who measure you up for a bespoke steed from Waterford in the US. They have some off the peg versions too - Gunnar frames. I'm looking at having a crosshairs built to my spec even now (either that or a SAAB 9-3 ttid for a bit of oil burning pleasure).

http://www.gunnarbikes.co.uk/roadie.html - this links to the roadie frame (£845 frame only, 1095 including fork). Look on the waterford forum for some bike porn. If you like steel that is.

I love the Legend bikes, having originally seen them in Beau Velo and then again in Velosport. I've been going through something similar, though for me its the desire for a Ti winter bike running disc brakes to a custom (non-CX) geometry with mount points for 'guards. I now have a custom built Qoroz on order through Velosport which should be arriving towards the end of November. Its a mix of their Race and Road frames to dimensions from my bike fit at Bike Whisperer a while ago. I tried the Road and Race bikes, loved the ride of the Road and the style of the Race so combined the 2 into a completely unique bike. Plus I get to customise it, though I'm keeping it simple, naked Ti with my name etched onto the frame and then a splash of colour with the headset and cables. The only problem at the moment is wheels. There are some nice looking Kinesis disc specific wheels (with no brake tracks) for £280 or some handbuilts which are very likely to be better but also £600. Decisions, decisions.

Steve and Velosport and Chris at Qoroz have been great so far but the real proof will be in the riding. Roll on winter!

Btw, I have some Shimano 29er wheels, under 1800g and don't need rim tape. I think they were about £350. MT75? Anyway, they are great. I researched this quite a bit and there are decent offerings from Fulcrum, Mavic and Am Classic which save you about 100g but at a cost of about another £200+. If you want to get much lighter than that, you get into silly money. I was pretty close to going for the Mavics, but the Shimano are easily the best value.
