There really ought to be a push to have new homes built with solar panels, compost pellet boilers and a rainwater tank for grey water usage (toilet/garden etc).
You have no mains gas or electric to pump through to homes, saving on resources even further and then the workforce could retrain to service these new installations....
None of this is difficult, it's down to whether there is a real appetite for it. There ought to be with diminishing fuel supplies.
The same goes for having a viable public transport network and safer cycling routes in towns and cities.
Or am I being too utopian?
The thing is, if we generate all of our own fuel, the govt will get no tax.....0 -

To have aims that are Utopian is healthy even if they seem unrealistic, to arrive somewhere further along the right road is still further in the right direction, don't let those with negatives views sway your judgement.
You pay Income tax on your earnings, you pay Value Added tax on your purchases, the sellers of your purchases pay Corporation tax on their profits (if they haven't hidden it abroad). In fact you will pay less for a basic need which would only release a burden on millions of households and allow them to have a higher standard of living and in the case of the elderly survive these bloody awful winters where the energy company mafia make most of there huge profits.0 -
The charity expects to feed more than 200,000 people in 2012-13 as food and fuel bills are set to rise this winter.
