Hi,

Getting ready to start Winter training and just wondering what books people would advise for training.

So far have pondered on Time Crunched Cyclist and The Cyclist's Training Bible.

I only really want to buy one and focus on that, rather than trying to read a few and getting conflicting messages

The time crunched cyclist seems good, but i was hoping to get more than 6 hours training a week in

If it helps my training will be to get fit for racing come Spring, crit racing and some time trials. And i don't own a power meter but am purchasing a HR monitor and a turbo

Anyones recommendations, and why they recommend them would be greatly appreciated

Cheers

6 hours of structured and hardfocussed training hours worth damn sight more than 3 times 'getting the miles' in hours.
  • I take it that is a vote for time crunched cyclist then!

    Cheers mate

Personally I'd get both, you can pick time crunched up for £7-9 on amazon. But they try to achieve different things, if you're sitting in May, wanting to prep for a race in August, time crunched every time. It gives you just enough information to make a good improvement in a short time.

But if your're sitting in October wondering how to get better and ready for next years season, then training bible is a better choice IMHO
  • Thanks for that

Both sound like what I want really

So the bible is long term race fitness and time crunched cyclist is if you need a bit of a last minute boost or a change mid season?

Yep, time crunched gives you a good 3 month plan that will make a good difference. Also gives you the basics on training, nutrition, etc. bible will enable you to create a yearly training plan and map out base periods, etc in more detail. It's probably a better place to start at this time of the year.
