How long is your long ride?

I'm talking about time, not distance.

I'm just curious as this seems to vary a lot from one person to another, so I thought it'd be cool to gather the results and see how much it varies. Obviously your long rides during different parts of the season will be different (shorter when racing usually) but just say an average time (or a range if you prefer), and ignore the weeks where you don't do them at all because of races and whatnot, or when you do some crazy 24 hour challenge. I'm also assuming you only have one "long ride" per week, but feel free to mention if you just do long rides or something.

Also, include if this is a solo or group ride and how many weekly hours you train in total if you don't mind. I'll start.

Long ride: 4h-5h / Solo
Weekly hours: 15h

Usually around 4h solo out of a weekly total of around 12 hours.

4 to 5 hours generally (around 70 - 80 miles). I upped this a bit back in the summer to get some time in the saddle ahead of my first 12 hour TT.

Long ride is 3 to 4 hours out of a total weekly time of 6 to 8 hours.
  • My longest ride so far is 1 hr 40 mins - 24 miles.

But then I did only get the bike on Saturday. :D

Anything up to 8 hours for me, though that sort of ride would be very rare in a year, probably once or twice in the build up to a 12 hour. Most of my long rides are the 5-6 hour mark. Almost all of my rides are solo, I only ever do group rides at the end of a long tough week when I might want some company. I do long rides all year round, but then again I do long distance TT's in the main, when I do them and how many in a week is based on my target races.

Training week for me can be anything from 4 hours a week, to 20+ hours a week, again dependant on my target races.

4Hr a day minimum, anywhere between 25hr and 35hr a week At least that was while i was working. Just got fired so i imagine i'm going to have a lot of spare time on my hands.

3-4hrs. Don't see any point riding for longer than that; it's boring, and I rarely race for more than 3 hours.

I do 4-5 hours as my long ride/per week. Any longer and I find it dull. I may even feel like not riding the next day. Personally I find that a good quality 4-5 hour ride will do me better than a stretched out 6 hour ride. The remainder of the week I'll do 2-3 hour rides. In a week I total 13-15 hours. Most of my rides are solo, I occasionally do a club ride once a week.

Having said that, on the odd occasion, this is very seldom, maybe once a month I'll do a 7-8 hour ride (similar to a sportive).

Long ride 5-6 hours, half of which is club run, the other half solo. Mid week longer ride of 2.5-3 hours and two other rides of around 1.5 hours
