Wiggle Dragon Ride 2013

Did anyone see any welsh rarebit that had been promised. Also, disappointed that " roast potatoes " were cold boiled potatoes. I think in general the food on offer was poor, for the price they should be offering branded energy food even if they ration the amounts. What was the goody bag all about? can't wait to use my small tube of toothpaste.....
Was a fantastic ride though and the weather could not have been better. Not sure I would rush back.0 -
Hi - I was on top of Cimla taking photos while waiting for a friend of mine to pass. Quite a few people waved at me as they passed (some FMs here may be some of them).
Just wondering if anyone would be interested if I were to post the pics on the web. It'd be nice if some of the riders were united with their pictures.
I'll try and list rider numbers if it doesn't take too long (there are around 180 pics)
Cheers

I for one would love to see them Phil (although if I'm in one of them not sure anyone else wants to see my sweaty bulk on a bike)0 -

Each to their own but I've always relied on my own supplies for sportives, and only top up tends to be water. I hate eating stuff I'm not used to in training. Why eat stuff like Bakewell tarts etc when you've not done it in training. Recipe for disaster if you ask me.
Appreciate everyone's different though.0 -

Even by your standards that is a ridiculous statement. Look in a dictionary, I think you will find that cyclists are defined people who ride bikes.

Sportives are a fantastic way to introduce people who are scared of audaxes or long solo rides to distance riding. That's their place, but they hold no appeal to me. I've done a couple but didn't find them to be value for money based upon my previous comments.
The Dragon Ride was 60 quid and absolute carnage until the field thinned out. I can ride that route any day for free or pay 4-5 pounds to do an audax in the area and not have to worry about cowboys on the ride.
Or perhaps I'm just upset at my lack of medals...English Cycles V3 | Cervelo P5 | Cervelo T4 | Trek Domane Koppenberg0 -

I understand your point, but people like to ride in big packs, make them feel like PRO... In Italy Granfondo have a race like start... if you are not in the first few lines, you are likely to lose 10 minutes in the first ten miles... at the front they start at 30 mph until the first climb... if you are behind, you can probably manage 20left the forum March 20230 -

If they hold no appeal to you, why do you keep saying that you are going to join the ride unofficially? Is it just the paying that you don't like?0 -
I spend more on bikes and bike related stuff than 99.9% of people here (my LBS has a life size portrait of me painted on a wall), so I don't think my support of the industry is in question. What I do object to is extortion, which describes most sportives. I ride around 5-8 audaxes and TTs a month and pay for all of them as the value for money is not in question. In order for me to pay over the odds for any other ride it would have to be something really special.
Was I ever going to ride the Dragon? Nope. I was in the States on business, but even if I was about, I would have just gone on a club run instead as I can ride the route anytime. Would I join onto a sportive without paying for it? Sure, if the route was interesting and I happened to be in the area, but I would never go out of my way to do it. If you've ever been a runner then you'd know it's a common practice and doesn't cost the organizers a thing.
Still it's highly amusing to see how bent out of shape people get over this sort of thing. :PEnglish Cycles V3 | Cervelo P5 | Cervelo T4 | Trek Domane Koppenberg0 -
Grill you come across as numpty. I have never read a post where you have not slated something/said you are better or your opinion is more valid than others.
My favourite post you made was saying that you could do the dragon on 2 water bottles and a some prunes but the above one "I spend more on bikes and bike related stuff than 99.9% of people here (my LBS has a life size portrait of me painted on a wall" is a very close second.
Why not use the vast experience and talent you have to help and encourage people rather than this hate that pours out.0 -
Grill can't help being negative, he's an arsehole.I don't mean to brag, I don't mean to boast, but I'm intercontinental when I eat French toast...0

Actually it's dates, and I can as I've done rides more than twice as long on two bottles. You should know that fueling is unique to each given rider. Now were the Dragon in Arizona this time of year I would need 4-5 bottles...
Shame that you can't separate the facetious from the factual, but hey, it's to be expected.
I am curious as to where I say I'm better than others (although it's true*) as I can't off-hand think of making that sort of statement.
@dmclite- I'm not negative, on the contrary you'll find that I always give encouragement and tell people they can do what others say they can't. Perhaps you should read what I post...

I must apologise you are correct and I am an numpty who posts stuff like this

That could go on your grave stone if they had enough room left after they had listed all your achievements in life.0 -
My favorite part of this exchange was when you took one of my statements that was appended with satire out of context. Still, it was to be expected.
For your edification I don't need a headstone for everyone to remember how great I am.*

I think this topic has exhausted his function, I will therefore lock it, unless someone has something to say about the Dragon Ride... for personal rants use your email...left the forum March 20230
