Advice on interval training / turbo sessions over the winter

I’m getting back into road cycling after long layoff and I'm looking to start a proper training program over the winter months so that come March I can enjoy my cycling a lot more.

I don't have any specific goals, but I know that I'm fed up being the slowest guy in the bunch that everyone has to wait for. I'm managing about 14mph over a 30-40mile ride and I'm absolutely knackered at the end - I'm easily the least fit of the bunch.

Like many people on here I'm sure, I have a demanding job and 2 young children under 5 years, so time is a big factor, so am thinking that a structured interval program that I can do on the turbo from now till March next year will really help bring me on in the fitness stakes.

Being honest and realistic with my time, I’m thinking that 2 interval sessions on the turbo during the week and a long road ride at the weekend is about as much as I will manage.

If anyone is able to recommend me a program/book that I will be able to follow I will be eternally in there debt.

I'm also hopeful that this advice will be useful to others as there must be quite a few people in a similar position to me.

Thanks in advance.

Not missing sessions will be the most important bit .. then what you actually do during them.

I can highly recommend TrainerRoad as well though. Realistically you're looking at £80 in equipment (£40 if you already have a Garmin with a Speed/Cadence Sensor) and £6.50 per month. 120 bucks to be in great shape come April (and beyond!)
All the above is just advice .. you can do whatever the f*ck you wana do!

sat on the turbo I appreciate the drop in video/follow the power pattern of TR and not just sat there blindly looking at an Excel spreadsheet...
for TR at $10 pm gives me enough incentive to use it fully...
I have a basic TP account and if my ambition grows that may be the next step.

Golden Cheetah can use .erg workouts as well and it's free  (but doesn't have any power guessing stuff)
