Andy Schleck is racing and keen to put in a performance. He also says he will be training hard in the winter and expects to put in good performances from the earliest races (completely new for him).
Tony Martin is last years winner but it looks tricky for him this year although he said he will try.
Japan team withdrawn for political reasons.
Phinney hunting stage wins.

How would you 'spoil' the Tour of Beijing ?
I went to China a couple of years ago, arrived in Chongqing early evening.
Up to room, sun was setting and blinding golden light flooding in so closed the curtains.
Opened them in the morning and saw a tower block opposite, which hadn't seen night before.
Out for day, came back in evening, couldn't see the tower block opposite through the window.
It was an ordinary street, perhaps 4 lanes wide, pollution built-up during the day such that you couldn't see a building across it...0 -
Might play havoc with their doping programmes then ...0

That's just the Chinese messing with your head. They build a tower block while your asleep and then knock it down again when you're not looking. They do it to lots of foreigners. They think it's hilarious.Twitter: @RichN950 -

is a shame it is held inside Beijing city ..if they go a bit further out, air quality is good. Some sections near the Great wall have good visibility without much pollution. It's good that pro bike racing goes to China though....if Chinese brands want to sponsor teams, it will be seen to have been a worthwhile effort. Maybe it is better to try to attract Chinese sponsors than keep at some of the financially struggling European companies whose budgets appear not to stretch to a supporting World Tour pro cycling teams. Think JV struggling to get backers for Garmin shows how tight it has been0

Fenn is notable...good ride by him. I was most interested in the opening ceremony's female dance troupe, some traffic stoppers there ....nice change from Euro birds0 -

I reckon a grand total of 73 road side supporters0

Tony's neck is way too small for his head - his body has obviously diverted all extraneous muscle to his legs0

I thought it was an early stage of Poland, as there wasn't any sand. :roll:Organiser, National Championship 50 mile Time Trial 19720 -

stage three seems to have a hard sprint, it looks on the profile as if it should be a KOM point

Was going to watch this at ten but eurosport has just decided not to put it on! Was it that bad?0

That "climb" rises 150m over 10k - they've just played silly b*ggers with the scale.0 -

Yep, faded quickly into background cycling for me. The last 200 metres was ok though - looks like EBH has learnt how to give someone a lead out.0 -

Badaling is a beautiful backdrop for a stage finish. Visited there in 1999. It was quite rural..there was no air pollution of note out there. Sincerely hope we don't see any mask wearing at stage end. Anyone who wears a mask will risk the wrath of race organisers and Chinese immigration if they want visa renewals for that country. Anything that damages the image of that country comes to the notice of the authorities.0 -

Peloton looks pretty small. Euskaltel leading - Anton and Samu racing. As is Hesjedal and Dan Martin.Contador is the Greatest0 -
Cant see Andy for the moment but he may be one of the cpl Shack riders at the back.
Anton drilling it along with an AG2R rider (they have Peraud, Noncentini and Bardet)Contador is the Greatest0
