This video is incredible, you won't believe the crash at the end.

That takes me back a bit. Recall being in the pits for a number of those races when my lads raced cross. The bunny hop of the ditch by Nys looks like the Gazette van Antwerpen Trofee at Loenhout, while the final clip is the World Cup at Hoogerheide in 2007. The junior and u23 races were ok, then a cloudburst made the course unrideable in places just before the elite men started.
Phil Dixon, current MTB coach is in the National Champs jersey about half way down the field.

Maybe that's last year's quote. A recent photo from last week had him with a red bike.

  • Good race today, both Albert and Pauwels looked shattered at the finish. Defo a race for the French Fighter! Missed the first few minutes, why was Nys so far back on the first lap?

I keep missing these races as I'm out at cross myself.

Watch out for Hugo Robinson when he races in Belgium. 5th in the National Trophy, 1st U23, he started 4th row of the grid.... he's 17!

Great pics, FF. I think cyclo-x lends itself very well for action photography.

Yep, saw him whilst marshalling yesterday - very good prospect.

I've been in the same race as him a couple of times. I ended up getting lapped ridiculously early in each race!

Just spotted that - with a third Brit in top ten (Gabriella Day), too. Does this now mean that the only area of pro cycling that the Brits are shite at is men's cross?

Still think that cross would be better still if the riders had to do that thing in that drinking game where you put your forehead on a stick and run around it ten times...

And I didn't spot Gabby Day getting 9th. Shame on me!

In fairness, everyone is shite at men's cross except the Belgians!

Unfortunately, that will inevitably be the case as its amateur in this country and the best young riders (a number who have performed well as juniors at World level..eg Thwaites, McEvoy, Bibby ..all Endura) are pulled across to road.

We re still crap at mens BMX, XC and XCE too. We ve not had much success in Trials since the 90's either

It's "only" Road, Track and DH that we re any good at! Poor performance really ;)

Worth going if combining with the 6-Day, as it's only about an hour away from Gent and easy to get to. Pay on the gate, free parking on the nextdoor airport runway.

Actually it seems we not have - I had thought Liam Phillips won it in the past but not even close from what I can tell.

When I said "pro cycling" I meant the disciplines that all talented cyclists end up doing once they've finished with novelty stuff and/or have realised that the belt in their trousers is for keeping their strides ABOVE the waist and not BELOW the hips...

Road racing and track are those disciplines.

Cyclo-cross is allowed because the Belgians like it and generally whatever they say about cycling goes (although Museeuw's confession and Merckx talking shite lately have put dents in this policy); plus, it enables the fans to continue to spectate in stupid weather whilst drinking beer and it allows the riders to continue to taste lung-blood year round.

All of the other versions of bike riding are to proper cycling what crazy golf is to proper golf.

    Cheers mate, thats very useful.
We will probs make our decision nearer the time. We arrive in Calais at 10am on the Sat morn, and have tickets for Sat and Sun Track, so could fit in perfectly! Would be a shame not to see any of Gent while we are there like! Other option is to find a bar there and watch it :-)

    Do Eurosport cover cyclocross?
“New York has the haircuts, London has the trousers, but Belfast has the reason!
  • No, but you can watch Belgian/Dutch coverage via http://www.cyclingfans.com

The women's races tend to be ignored, with only 10 seconds or so of them on the podium.
