    Thanks again all... thought I'd post an update, cos I think I almost have a decision.

    I rode the Cannondale Synapse again this afternoon, and straight away it dropped into 3rd place behind the Specialized Allez Elite and the Giant Defy Composite 3.

    It seems that the Specialized and the Giant have virtually identical specs, except that for an extra hundred quid I get a carbon frame.

    So on the way home, I stopped off at the Giant shop, had another look at the Defy, and... (fanfare)... put down a deposit!!!!

    It's been a bit of a whirlwind - from 100% ignorance about ten days ago, to a blur of brands, terms, specs, and test rides... to an actual decision. It's not quite 'final answer', since the agreement is for the deposit to hold the bike for a week or so, on the basis that if they get someone in who wants it, I'll need to make a pretty instant decision.

    So what I need now, is a bit of reassurance!

    Cos now I'm bricking it... thinking "OMG have I made the right decision". :shock: :oops: :?: :?: :?:

    Job done I'd say :)

    I'd have been tempted by a carbon frame but I didn't have the budget. I think you've made a good choice.

    Just about to head off to Richmond Park for my first proper ride on it.

    Did I say it was a 50th birthday present? My mistake, I meant 15.... :oops:
