Wow. Men tomorrow have a lot to do to tomorrow to match the class today.

Yes, but I suspect that the men wouldn't let a break containing Gilbert but not, say, a Spanish or Italian rider go away with two laps to go and then sit around scratching their collective testicles while the break gains 1 minute in just ten minutes away.

Not just that, the difference between say, Gilbert and the rest isn't as great as Vos and the rest.

  • So I thought Pooley just didn't have the legs when Vos jumped clear of the bunch, looks like someone rode into her...

I was going to say great win by Vos right up until she grabbed the Dutch flag at the end - this is not a triathlon!

Pooley spent too much time in the wind. Far too much. If she hadn't then she might've been able to catch the final break.

Saying that it was a good race. They (Eurosport?) need to put women's cycling on the TV more. Then they will get the sponsorship and the money. I would watch it - damned entertaining racing.

Most of the races aren't televised at all.

Not much Eurosport can do about that.

    Just watching the race now.

Seems to play out in the same way as the few old '70s races I've watched on old youtube clips.

Must be to do with the bigger speed differences between the riders.

I have to admit I haven't watched her race much, but it seems she really has a thing for riding on the front right corner of the peloton... not near the front, but on the front. Does she do this in most events??

Yes, she does. She's not the greatest of bike handlers, so rides alot, probably too much at the front. Don't think this is going to change anytime soon unfourtunately. Don't agree that he failure to catch the break had anything to do with her riding on the front to much, that was to do with the Italian rider riding into her when Vos attacked. Maybe she might have been better off trying to get into the break with Longo Borghini, Neylan and Neben?

I found her disappointment and self-criticism very difficult to watch here. Must be really tough to get to the end of this race, after a disappointing season and the prospects for women's cycling looking dire, and have to talk to camera. Huge shame, given the way the women's races (olympics, juniors) have so far been much more entertaining than the men's - and I don't think that is just because of British interest.

Yeah, agree with you there. She has not been her usualy happy self of late. Maybe this is down to the doubts about what she's going to do next year or maybe things haven't been great within her trade team or both?
