14th October from St Ives Cornwall.
Without doubt my favourite ride of many of last year.
Highly recommended. Just booked my place and only 34 places left on the 100km.
Would like to do 100 miles but at this point in season worry about fitness / weather / light etc.
(Sir Fin - I have just read your very positive review of last year and I've a feeling we've communicated on Bike Radar before. You entering this year?)
Everyone else - treat yourselves to a wonderful weekend in Cornwall. Weather permitting, you won't find a more scenic ride anywhere in the country!

Can't wait - 3 of us coming down for the 100 mile version. Staying with the Outlaws in Helston and my bike gets to return to its spiritual home (it came from Cycle Logic in Helston).
Think the only problem will be stopping all the time to admire the views. Although in October, we might not see that much....!!FCN 3 / 40 -
Anybody got a route profile for both the 100km and 100 miles?Little boy to Obama: "My Dad says that you read all our emails"

I'm booked onto the 100 miler too (with a 500 mile round trip to be there). It'll be my first ever century ride but with 3,500 feet of climbing it's not too hilly. Making a long weekend of it with the missus at the Harbour Hotel & Spa in St Ives. Really excited about riding some unfamiliar coast roads. Tomorrow's Oxford - Cambridge BHF ride was due to be the pinnacle of my season but Cornwall in October will no doubt trump it for scenery and exhilaration, as well as distance (oof!)0 -
I'm doing the 106 mile course - I know the area pretty well, but haven't really cycled any of the route. Hoping for a nice clear day and no wind (fat chance!) so I can appreciate the views. After doing the Dartmoor Classic (11,000ft) and Moor 2 Sea (12,000ft), it should seem like a pretty gentle ride - of course, that's not taking into account the westerly gales that will probably be blowing. Staying in St Ives for a long weekend - looking forward to it. See you on the start line.0

Booked for the 100km, and really looking forward to it. Coming down from Scotland; the in-laws live in Camborne, therefore free accommodation I'm anticipating winds, especially around West Penwith: is that a reasonable expectation?
See you all on the start line.kop van de wedstrijd0 -
October in Cornwall? Probably breezy. Quite possibly four seasons in one day territory, yet it might just be beautiful. Best bring a fair selection of kit just in case (or be ready to spend some cash in Cycle Logic before the event!).FCN 3 / 40

Have signed up for this at the weekend. Too late for the 100 mile or 100k but thought it's worth a trip down the coast for the 65k ride.
Will be my first sportive and really looking forward to it. Bit gutted I missed out on the 100miler but I'm sure it'll be good fun none-the-less.0 -
That road to Zennor is great, the sea is so moody looking. Hope you don't have too much rain and wind0

Route packs are supposed to be coming out today I believe...FCN 3 / 40

Can't wait.
Saw that a few more entries were made available for the 100k and 100 mile this week. They went in no time - I was considering switching but have stuck with the 65k.
Have been out in the wind and rain this week to aclimatise myself to riding in what may be a bit of a mess.
Is it usually a mass-start for these type of events, or are you released in groups?0 -
Can't speak for last year, but I've done sportives which were released in groups or just whenever you're ready. May depend on the roads and amount of other traffic: maybe someone who did this last year can help. Not the widest roads in and around St Ives but might be early enough not to be problematic.kop van de wedstrijd0

Am I right in thinking it starts at 7.30? It'll still be dark then...!FCN 3 / 40

7.30?!? Jeez. :shock:kop van de wedstrijd0

Got the info.
£6.30 for the car park means about £3,000 to the council: we should get closed roads for thatkop van de wedstrijd0 -

I was thinking about parking in the short-stay and using that as an incentive to get around super-fast!
Some good info in there. Nice to see we'll be released in small groups and timing chips to log the time so no need to rush to start in the front. Might wait for the sun to come up before heading out myself. Little extra time in bed too0 -
dos anyone have a ticket that they are not going to use for the 100 mile? i feel a tad cheeky for just tagging along! cheersOpinions are like arseholes, everyone has one. Never take anyone's opinion as fact!0

Start is from 7.30 to 8.30. Nice to see you can register the day before for those in the area.FCN 3 / 40 -
Hoping this event goes ahead - currently predicting 50-60mph westerlies for Sunday. I've sent an e-mail asking at which point might conditions be considered too dangerous.
Hopefully they've got the forecast wrong as I'm really looking forward to this event. See you all at the start!?!0 -

Ignore it. I've never yet seen a reliable forecast for Cornwall this far out. I'll only be worried if they're forecasting it the night before!!FCN 3 / 40 -

I know, I've lived in the SW long enough to not take too much notice - certainly wouldn't have fancied riding the stretch from St Ives to St Just in those conditions! I'll check forecast on Saturday to get a more realistic idea and will be prepared for all sorts.0 -
looks like another event i'll be missing! missed the cornwall tour as well this year due to pretty much storm conditions!
rubbish!0 -

yea i'm booked up for the 100k.0

Big improvement in the forecast compared to 24 hours ago. Breezy with the chance of a shower. Sounds like a normal Cornish day to me...FCN 3 / 40

Yep, what a difference a few days make. Now (probably) mainly dry, sunny spells and a moderate N wind. Will still be packing everything though when I head down to St Ives tomorrow - will decide what to wear Sunday morning! See you 7:30 and enjoy!0

Yes indeed Was a little worried last night but looks like that front may miss. Don't fancy hitting the long cat4 out of Penzance into a strong headwind :?mustol wrote:Yep, what a difference a few days make. Now (probably) mainly dry, sunny spells and a moderate N wind. Have a good trip down.
Now looking forward to the St Ives, St Just stretch, rather than dreading it!0 -
that's the biggest forecast U turn i've ever seen .. not complaining though!0
-
What a great day. Thoroughlly enjoyed that. Beautiful scenery and great weather, despite the forecast. That road from St Ives to St Just might just be the nicest road I've ever ridden.
That was a fun hairpin hill coming out of Treen. Wasn't expecting it and was a bad time to lose my front derailleur  Had to grind it out all out in the big ring. Ouch.
Seemed to be really well organised and was a fantastic route. Hardly any traffic at all - almost felt that the roads had been shut just for us! It was my first Sportive so didn't really know what to expect. Will be looking for more in the near future though.
Hooked0 -
fantastic route if you like cyclocross! .. some of those back lanes were appauling, more mud than tarmac!0
