Alternative vice / freewheeel removal

Ok so I'm trying to get a freewheel off my station hack.
I've got the correct tool, have used the skewer to secure the tool s to stop it slipping but I can't get the damn thing off with a wrench. Wisdom says stick it in a vice and use the tyre to get some purchase - only I don't have a vice.....
any alternatives or should I pop my head around a garage door somewhere and say 'scuse me mate can I stick this in your vice for 5 mins?
EDIT>> The vice in the LBS did the honours

I don't use a Skewer but attach a 24" breaker bar to it, get one person to hold the wheel and then you have two hands on the bar so you can make sure it stays in place.Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0
